Planning
Based on the results of the 2015 Needs Assessment – 36
hospitals responded
• Providing a template as an annex to the Regional
Coalition coordination plans for Emerging Infectious
Disease (EID)
• Frontline Worker Safety
• PPE Caches
• Training
• Exercising
PPE Caches
6 sites have been established as cache locations. Primary
front line facilities are receiving a number of full PPE sets to
have on hand including;
• Hospitals
• Health departments
• EMS groups
• small amount will remain for as needed access
Identified Training Needs
• Admission procedures, training for staff
• Doffing and donning of PPE
• Notification procedures
• Comprehensive Ebola training
• Update on CDC Frontline PPE recommendations
• Assessment and Treatment of infectious Diseases
• Hands on exercises and drills
• New staff and refresher training
Training
• A comprehensive training plan is being developed -
based on Needs Assessment
Online or video training module - General Awareness
• Standard Precautions
• Patient triage and isolation precautions
• PPE Level B training
• Basic Lab/Diagnostic testing
• Transport prep and hand off
• Notification of County/State plan protocols
Increase Clinical skills, work through WVU Simulation
Center (for Rostered/ED staff) Intensive level
Identified Exercise Needs
• 55% had conducted a tabletop exercise
• 23% had conducted a functional exercise
• 23% had conducted a drill
• 30% were planning a drill or functional exercise to take
place in late 2015 or early 2016
Exercising
• Each Hospital is provided a “Walk in Drill” package
• Self Evaluation
• Support provided to staff
• Evaluator stipend
• Phone conferencing
• Replacement or practice PPE
