I work in the capacity of a Junior Specialist Physician in the
Department of Radiation Oncology. I was appointed to this
position on a provisional basis from 04/2012 – 06/2012 and on a
permanent basis subsequently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 My responsibilities are that of a Radiation and Clinical
Oncologist. They include:
 Performing appropriate staging investigations, planning and
monitoring radiation therapy, deciding chemotherapy
schedules and administering chemotherapy and following
up treated cases.
 Seeing patients at the outpatient clinic as well as consults. I
see up to 40 patients per day and plan 20 new patients per
week independently.

Participating in resident and technologist training.
Providing palliative care for cancer patients.
Making treatment policy decisions in interdepartmental
tumour board meetings.
Telemedicine treatment decisions and education for
outreach clinics.
PROCEDURES:
 I perform Brachytherapy applications for various sites
independently.
 Radiation modalities at our institution include Conventional
Radiotherapy,
3D-CRT,
IMRT,
IGRT,
VMAT
and
Brachytherapy.
 I perform around 10 brachytherapy applications per week
for various sites.

 I pursued my 3 year post graduate specialist training in
Clinical oncology which is called Radiotherapy in India.
 The first year consisted of managing the ward,
administration of chemotherapy in the ward, managing
oncological
emergencies,
supportive
care
during
radiotherapy and management of long term complications
of radiotherapy, assisting in the outpatient clinics,
observing and planning basic radiation cases such as
palliative radiotherapy and cervical cancer etc.
 The second year consisted of Intermediate Simulator based
Planning of almost all site-specific malignancies, performing
brachytherapy supervised initially, but independently by
middle of the year and seeing patients in outpatient clinics
and managing daycare chemotherapy.
 The third year consisted of advanced radiotherapy planning
with IMRT, VMAT and IGRT along with Brachytherapy. I was
also a part of the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board meetings
as an active participant. Independent outpatient services
were assigned to me and management of daycare
chemotherapy.
