STI notifications from CIDR - 2015 Version 1.0 14th March, 2016 Acknowledgements The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) would like to thank all those who provided the data for this report, particularly the STI clinics, the infectious disease surveillance staff within the departments of public health, the laboratories and GP clinics. STI data were extracted from CIDR on 18th February, 2016, and were correct at the time of publication. v1.0 14/03/2016 These slides present provisional data on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) notified to HPSC in 2015 via CIDR, the Computerised Infectious Disease Reporting system (for more information on CIDR, see http://www.hpsc.ie/hpsc/CIDR/). Following data validation later in the year a more detailed report on the epidemiology of STIs for 2015 will be produced. Detailed reports and trend data for previous years are available on the HPSC website at http://www.hpsc.ie/A-Z/HIVSTIs/SexuallyTransmittedInfections/Publications/STIReports/STIAnnualReports/ Please note: • STIs notified via CIDR since January 2013 are; chancroid, Chlamydia trachomatis, gonorrhoea, granuloma inguinale, herpes simplex virus (genital), lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV), syphilis and trichomoniasis. • Aggregate data on ano-genital warts (AGW) and non-specific urethritis (NSU) are reported to HPSC on a bi-annual basis from Departments of Public Health and are reported separately (see http://www.hpsc.ie/A-Z/HIVSTIs/SexuallyTransmittedInfections/Publications/STIReports/EpisodicSTIReports/Other/). • HIV, hepatitis B and sexually transmitted enteric infections (STEI), such as shigellosis, are notified via CIDR and are reported separately (see www.hpsc.ie) • The Irish case definition for syphilis changed on 1st January, 2014, and from this date, syphilis notifications include early (infectious) syphilis only. Data reported here are provisional which may change following clinical review. v1.0 14/03/2016 Table 1: STI notifications by disease, 2014 and 2015 (CIDR data only) 2015 2014 N % N % change 2014 -2015 0 - 0 - Chlamydia trachomatis infection 6815 70.1 6,693 +1.8 Gonorrhoea Granuloma inguinale Herpes simplex (genital) Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) 1,305 0 1,275 19 13.4 13.1 0.2 1,315 0 1,234 35 -0.8 +3.3 -45.7 249 2.6 204 +22.1 58 9,721 0.6 100.0 92 9,573 -37.0 +1.5 Sexually transmitted infection Chancroid Syphilis (early infectious) Trichomoniasis Total v1.0 14/03/2016 Figure 1: STI notifications by gender and disease, 2015 (CIDR data only) 4000 3500 Number of cases 3000 2500 2000 1500 1000 500 0 Chlamydia Gonorrhoea Herpes simplex (genital) Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) Early infectious syphilis Trichomoniasis Male 3229 1083 340 19 239 0 Female 3559 221 928 0 10 58 v1.0 14/03/2016 Table 2: STI notifications by age group and disease, 2015 (CIDR data only) Age Group Herpes Lymphogranuloma Syphilis Chlamydia Gonorrhoea simplex Trichomoniasis (early venereum infectious) (genital) <15 yrs 17 1 3 0 0 0 15-19 yrs 633 149 133 0 0 0 20-24 yrs 2,726 363 353 1 40 10 25-34 yrs 2,608 512 432 11 110 18 35-44 yrs 612 196 209 3 56 15 45-54 yrs 163 63 75 3 32 12 55-64 yrs 39 18 47 1 10 3 65+ yrs 6 3 23 0 1 0 Unknown 11 0 0 0 0 0 6,815 1,305 1,275 19 249 58 Total v1.0 14/03/2016 Figure 2: Distribution by age group of STI notifications, 2015 (CIDR data only) 3000 2500 Number of cases 2000 1500 1000 500 0 <15 yrs 15-19 yrs Chlamydia v1.0 14/03/2016 20-24 yrs 25-34 yrs Gonorrhoea 35-44 yrs 45-54 yrs 55-64 yrs Herpes simplex (genital) 65+ yrs Figure 3: STI notifications by month and disease, 2015 (CIDR data only) 700 600 Number of cases 500 400 300 200 100 0 Jan.
