dynamics, teamwork and leadership.

Students doing part-time (200-hr) internships will register for 3.0 credit

Gain an understanding of the administration and organization of quality and
patient safety definitions, practices, processes within health care systems.
Patient Navigation
Gain an understanding of the competencies and skills needed by patient
navigators; develop patient navigation basic skills; learn how
to use communication skills to build rapport with patients; explore the
connection between patient navigation and basic motivational
interviewing; and examine the barriers to care and how patient navigation is
used to break through those barriers.
Health Determinants & Disparities
Focuses on the biological, environmental, behavior, social and economic
factors that influence individual and community health and disease;
emphasis will be given to the interaction between these factors, including
personal lifestyle decisions and social determinants of health. Students will
also be introduced to the U.S. HealthPeople goals, objectives and
measures.
Genetics & Disease
The principles of human genetics covering mapping of disease genes,
defects causing human disease, the cloning of disease genes, gene
therapy, transgenes, and specific pathological disorders.
Infectious Disease
Improve your understanding of the basic concepts of infectious diseases
and dynamics of disease transmission. From an initial review of some
common terms, you progress into detailed discussions on how pathogens
establish themselves within a host to sustain an infection.
