The power of community-based cancer care.
CentraState Healthcare System offers the full
spectrum of cancer care services, including
prevention, diagnosis, treatment and wellness.
We believe that cancer care goes beyond treatment
so we provide education and screenings to help
reduce your risk of cancer, as well as advanced
diagnosis and early detection techniques. You’ll
also find world-class oncologists—trained at
renowned cancer centers—who provide
groundbreaking cancer treatments, such as
robotic surgery and proton therapy.
We also provide palliative care and pain
management to help ease your journey. And our
survivorship program offers supportive, posttreatment wellness resources to help keep you
strong—mind, body and spirit.
It’s a coordinated approach provided by our primary
care physicians, nurse navigators and cancer
specialists to guide you and your family through
every step of your journey.
What is a
Nurse Navigator?
CentraState's cancer
navigators are nurses that
can assist patients and their
families throughout the entire
cancer care continuum. Navigation
services include: directing you to resources for
diagnosis, treatment, and recovery; helping you
understand your diagnosis; coordinating
appointments with providers to ensure that you
receive timely diagnosis and treatment; assisting
with arrangements for transportation and
child/elder care; and recommending support
groups, classes, and other programs for
information and support.
New Jersey & National Affiliations
We are partners with The Cancer Institute of New
Jersey, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group
(ECOG), UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School and the Robert Wood Johnson Health
Network. Through our affiliations, we are able to
access the latest breakthroughs in cancer research
and clinical trials of the Cancer Trial Support Unit of
the National Cancer Institute, and provide state-ofthe-art care in our community.
Accreditation & Outstanding
Achievement Award
Our Cancer Program is accredited by the American
College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer
(CoC), which sets the standard for cancer care
programs in the nation. In 2011, we earned a threeyear reaccreditation with commendation as a
“Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer
Program” — a level of accreditation that reflects,
among other things, our program's rising patient
volume; our involvement in clinical trials that are
advancing the frontiers of cancer care; and our
attention to pain management.
Ties to American Cancer Society
Our pledge to provide the finest in cancer care is
enhanced by our relationship with the American
Cancer Society (ACS). We work closely with the
ACS to provide education, screenings and cancer
prevention and early detection programs.

PREVENTION
DIAGNOSIS
TREATMENT
WELLNESS
We believe cancer prevention
and early detection starts
with primary care. At
CentraState, our primary
care physicians are
knowledgeable about your
family history and can help
identify any potential signs or
symptoms of cancer.
Early detection and accurate
diagnosis give you your best
chance to beat cancer. So
we offer a team approach
to diagnosing cancer –
from primary care doctors
who will encourage and
monitor your cancer
screenings to oncologists trained at
renowned cancer centers like Harvard, Yale, Johns
Hopkins, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering.
At CentraState’s Cancer Center,
we offer a full array of
options for cancer
treatment, including
minimally invasive robotic
surgery, single-incision
laparoscopic surgery, and the
latest clinical trials with
promising new developments. And,
in collaboration with ProCure Treatment Centers,
Inc. and Princeton Radiation Oncology, we are the
first and only hospital in the New Jersey/New York
area to offer proton therapy—a powerful treatment
that targets tumors with maximum precision and
intensity.
With advanced treatment
options leading to increased
survivor rates, cancer is
progressively becoming a
chronic disease. That’s
why our primary care
physicians, experienced in
attending to the needs of
cancer survivors, will help guide
you towards continued wellness by keeping your
cancer under surveillance, screening for other
cancers, providing general preventive health, and
managing any ongoing health issues.
You’ll also have access to regular cancer screenings
and healthy lifestyle programs at our Star and Barry
Tobias Health Awareness Center that can help
reduce your risk for cancer. The Health Awareness
Center was the first hospital-based center of its kind
in New Jersey and one of only four centers
recognized nationally for excellence in adult and
child health education.
Plus, our Hereditary Oncology Prevention and
Evaluation (HOPE) Program, offered in partnership
with The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, can
provide you with genetic counseling and testing.
We couple physician expertise with the latest
diagnostic technologies available, including
MoleSafe, a melanoma screening system so
advanced it’s one of just seven in the country.
And, our Women’s Health Center has been named a
Breast Imaging Center of Excellence for digital
mammography and other diagnostic procedures.
The center is staffed by radiation oncologists who
are leaders in the field and surgeons who were
among the first in the world to perform videoassisted thoracic surgery.
Plus, you’ll have access to cancer rehabilitation and
wellness services such as integrative therapies like
yoga and meditation; specialized physical,
occupational and speech therapies, including
aquatic therapy; a medically-supervised Fitness and
Wellness Center; and specialized support groups.
We also have nurse navigators to help guide you
through your journey and palliative care services,
such as pain and symptom management, to help
relieve any physical or emotional stress.
Comprehensive cancer care from our dedicated
primary care physicians, nurse navigators and
cancer specialists to help you and your family step
past cancer.
