Connecting communities;
transforming lives.
More than 660 individuals are diagnosed
with cancer each year between Aurora
Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn and
Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.
This new $5.6 million comprehensive
cancer center will build on Aurora Health
Care’s established, leading cancer care
and medical expertise, while providing
patients greater access to vital cancer
services and integrative medicine
offerings that focus on healing — all close
to home.
This comprehensive cancer center is
expected to open in 2016. In generous
support of the Partners in Cancer Care
campaign, the Memorial Hospital of
Burlington Community Foundation has
made an initial gift of $1 million.
State-of-the-art design: Within this
comprehensive cancer center is a new
Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, featuring 25
medical oncology infusion bays (of which
two are private rooms), 10 exam rooms
and one outpatient procedure room, as
well as various spaces for complementary
therapies and support services.
Your gift will create a
unique model of care.
This comprehensive cancer center will
be located within the new Aurora Health
Center, to be built on 70 acres near
Spring Valley Road and Highway 36. The
cancer center will have its own dedicated
entryway to services for easy navigation
and convenient access.
Every aspect of this facility has been
uniquely designed for the treatment,
comfort, privacy and respect of cancer
patients. This center will compliment
Aurora Cancer Care’s integrated delivery
model which will provide increased
patient access to medical oncology
services and greater collaboration
among oncologists and specialists
in treating patients. The building is
designed with additional space for future
expansion of cancer services, such as
radiation oncology.
Integrated services: The Accredited
Breast Program from Aurora Memorial
Hospital of Burlington will be relocated to
a new Women’s Center at Aurora Health
Center and will offer 3-D mammography.
Holistic healing: During and after cancer
treatment, patients and their families
need additional support, education
and opportunities to understand their
illness, handle stress and develop coping
strategies. Your support will help us
include integrative medicine offerings,
such as massage therapy, acupuncture,
art therapy and reiki. In addition,
support groups and oncology patient
navigators are among the services that
will surround the healing process.
Natural setting: The holistic
environment extends to the natural
surroundings of the new cancer center.
Patients receiving chemotherapy will
have views of the natural wetlands. A
bike trail will run through the property
and link to the White River State Trail.
A healing garden will offer respite to
patients and loved ones.
