Detailed Duties and responsibilities in different situations:
1. Attending clinical ward rounds with medical teams to provide drug information,
monitor patients' responses to their medications.
2. Offer clinical oncology consultations to physicians about supportive care issues
such as pain management, nausea and vomiting, myelosuppression,
Toxicity management, drug interactions, patient with special cases (renal transplant
on immunosuppressant drugs, on dialysis, jaundiced.etc...) Who needs dose
modifications or alternatives.
3. Offer oncology expertise to the medical staff, hospital staff and the public.
4. Take part in developing and maintaining treatments protocols and programs.
5. Patient Education, Counseling and Monitoring patient experiences and adverse
reactions - drug interactions. Also actively involved in monitoring antibiotics
therapy sensitivity and response.
6. Participate in registrars and medical staff educational programs.
7. Assist in drug selection and drug procurement.
8. Take part in clinical meetings and contribute in cases discussion.
9. Offer drug information and circulars to the medical staff, hospital staff and the
public.
10. Participate in Medicine information Centre newsletter (updates in cancer
treatment and highlight specific issue related to cancer and its management).
11. Reviewing patients file for diagnosis, allergies, co morbidities, Histopathology,
CT scan reports, lab. Investigations -CBC, verification and documentation of

Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC), renal function tests, liver function tests, Tumor
markers, treatment plan, for patients due to chemotherapy.
12. Check& record patient’s current height, weight on the patient’s chart,
calculating Body Surface Area (BSA).
13. Check prescriptions for drug interactions, incompatibilities and doses, (patient
may need dose modification according to RFT specially GFR, LFT, CBC.
14. Calculate Creatinine clearance and Carboplain dose in some cases according to
AUC.
15 .Clearly View Chemotherapy orders, Check list (name of the drug, dosage,
diluents, route and duration of administration, premeditation for nausea and
vomiting) with the doctor’s signature , then fill the administration sheet for nurses.
16. Prepare the chemo reconstitution sheets for all nurses including compatibilities
and drugs stabilities.
17. Prepare wall notes for nurses in chem. wards, like do not mix drugs together,
give every chemo with separate I/V infusion set, give Gemcitabine in ½ hour only,
do not mix Oxliplain in NS and so on.
18. Be available in day case unit to attend chemo administration to assure rates of
infusions and sequencing and to offer nurses advices about safe handling of
cytotoxic drugs and how to deal with vesicant drugs.
19.Member in infection control team, prepare hand sanitizer in pharmacy
20. Prepare Magic solution for patients who develop mucocitis from radiotherapy or
chemotherapy.
21. Participate in pain control program, Pain assessment, oral morphine
preparation in pharmacy and assure that, patients take their doses in time (follow
up form), dose scaling to reach the optimum dose for the specific patient.
22. Supervise some B.pharm students who undertake their graduation research at
RICK.

Brief description of duties and responsibilities:
1. Review chemotherapy orders for accuracy and completion.
2. Develop medication safety guidelines for cytotoxic agents used in oncology clinical
practice.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of clinical practice in oncology pharmacotherapeutics.
Dispensing the prescribed medicines and instructing to patients the method of use
and dosage of the medication to provide better patient compliance.
4. Maintaining stock and account of medicines and cash.
5. Checking expiry dates, proper storage of medicines and temperature frequently.
6. Providing information about drugs as and when required by doctors, guiding
trainee and assistant pharmacist.
7. Preparing and submitting reports and accounts as and when required.
8. Provision of good customer services to inpatients and outpatients.
