We paid dollars for 4 loaves of bread. How much
money do we have to pay for 6 loaves?
a dollars for 4 loaves of bread. How many
loaves of bread can we buy with c dollars?
Maria has b dollars. She bought 5 cookies for d
We paid
dollars each. How much money does she have left?

Dan has dollars. His mom gave him dollars.
How many more dollars does Dan have now?
2
Divide and indicate the remainders.
Long Multiplication by a single digit

This is simple….

….and this is simple,
How many tens and how many ones go into each number? Write each of the following
numbers in the expanded form.
56, 34, 18, 9, 28,74, 34, 80, 66,19, 21, 77, 13, 23, 89
56 = 50 +6
5
but what will we do with this?
16=10+6
(10 + 6) × 3= 10 × 3 + 6 × 3 =30 + 18 = 48

Using the picture below explain how we can multiply numbers 24 and 8.
Examine the different ways to multiply the numbers. Which way is the most
convenient?
8
23 × 4
23 is 2 tens and 3 ones.
3 ones multiplied by 4 gives 12 ones and
2 tens multiplied by 4 gives 8 tens (that is 80).
80 and 12 are added to give the final product 92.
The 3 ones are first multiplied by 4 giving the product 12,
which is 1 ten and 2 ones. 2 is written in the ones column and
the 1 is recorded in the tens column. Now the 2 tens are
multiplied by 4 to give 8 tens. The 1 ten recorded before is
added on, so the product has 9 tens.
Angle
9
Draw two rays, which have their endpoints at the point below:
.
Two rays which share an endpoint form an angle.
Also, we say that when two lines meet at a point, these lines form an angle. A point where
the lines meet is called a vertex of the angle, and the lines are called sides of the angle.
We use three capital letters to name an angle. The letter which names the vertex is the middle
letter. For example, an angle ABC has a vertex at the point B.
10
Find all the rays in the drawing above. Write them down. ____________________________
Point O is a vertex of the angle. Figure NOP is an angle. Rays ON and OP are the sides of
the angles.
State the vertex and the sides for the angle MON. The angle MON is obtuse.
The drawings below show various angles. The last case shows the right angle.
The angle that is formed by the sides of a square called right angle.
The angle that is bigger than the right angleis called an obtuse angle.
The angle that is smaller than the right angleis called an acute angle.
11
Write down all the angles that you can find of the picture below.
Right angles: ______________________________________________________________
Obtuse angles: ______________________________________________________________
Acute angles: _______________________________________________________________
12
Finish the expression by substituting the words “greater” and “smaller”
appropriately.
a) Acute angle is always __________________ than right angle.
b) Obtuse angle is always _________________ than right angle.
c) Acute angle is always __________________than obtuse angle
d) Right angle is always ___________________ than acute angle
e) Obtuse angle is always __________________ than acute angle.
13
Here are two angles. Which one is
larger? Why?
14
The vertices of the angles on the picture below share the point. How many angles can
you find? Write them down.
___________________________________
The angles  MOK and  KOS are called supplementary angles.
The supplementary angles share the vertex O and a side OK. The sides OC and
OM of the supplementary angles form a straight angle.
15
If you added 4 squares to the left
side, how many circles would you need
to add to the right side to keep it
balanced?
If you added 6 squares to the left side,
how many circles would you need to add
to the right side to keep it balanced?

Foxy Tail has a basket containing ten
apples.
He has ten friends who each desire an
apple. He gives each of his friends one
apple.
After a few minutes each of his friends has
one apple each, yet there is an apple
remaining in the basket.
How it is possible?
