September Is Pain Awareness Month
Pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart
disease, and cancer combined. About 76 million
Americans suffer from pain. NCCAM supports studies on
diseases and conditions related to pain.

New ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course
ONS has updated the ONS Chemotherapy and
Biotherapy Course. The course continues to be two
days and offers 13.5 CEs. The content has been
revised; there are fewer questions on the exams; there
is a new text (see information below).

Updates include the addition of doripenim to the
Antibacterial Agents Tables and tenofovir DF to the
Antiviral Agents Tables. Updates regarding seasonal
and pandemic strains of influenza, including H1N1,

ONS Partners With Oncology Social Workers to Help
Define Patient Navigator Role
ONS participated in a joint think tank with the
Association of Oncology Social Workers to help develop
an understanding of this professional role and determine
the needs of the emerging patient navigator position.

neoadjuvant, adjuvant, advanced, and metastatic
indications. The NCCN Chemotherapy Order

Supportive and Palliative Care Conference
This conference is supported and recognized by ASCO.
The fifth annual Chicago Supportive
Oncology Conference will be October 1-3, 2009. It
provides oncology health care professionals
with three days of learning, networking and vital
discussion about treatment issues relating to
survivorship and end of life care. Earn 15.25 CME, 14.9
CNE, or 15.3 CPE credits.
