Activity #4 – Classification of Triangles and Quadrilaterals
California State Content Standard – Measurement and Geometry for Grade Six
2.0 Students identify and describe the properties of two-dimensional figures:
2.3 Draw quadrilaterals and triangles from given information about them (e.g., a quadrilateral having equal sides but no
right angles, a right isosceles triangle).
Definitions
Triangle - Closed figure composed of exactly 3 line segments, called sides.
Right Triangle - A triangle that contains exactly one right angle.
Isosceles Triangle - A triangle with two or three sides that are congruent.
Equilateral Triangle - A triangle with three sides that are congruent.
Scalene Triangle - A triangle that has three different lengths of size.
Quadrilateral - Closed figure composed of exactly 4 line segments.
Square - A quadrilateral having four congruent sides and four right angles.
Rectangle - A quadrilateral having four right angles.
Parallelogram - A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.
Kite - A quadrilateral with two non-overlapping pairs of adjacent sides that are congruent.
Rhombus - A quadrilateral having four congruent sides.
Trapezoid - A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.
Equilateral - Any figure whose sides are congruent.
Equiangular - Any figure that has all of its angles congruent.
