Islam is a religion of firm monotheism, teaching mankind to believe in and worship All to be the final revelation sent to humanity, This Monotheism (or Tawheed in Arabic) is the Allah says about Himself: foundation of the religion of Islam. The most Mighty God alone and none other than Him∗. Muslims (followers of Islam) hold severe sin is that which opposes it: believing in with conviction that God is the All Powerful Creator and Sustainer of the universe alone and none rivals Him in any way. He is completely perfect and there is nothing comparable to Him, He is free from any deficiencies, dependencies or evils. Muslims refer to God as Allah, which comes from the Arabic language. Arabic speaking Christians and Jews use the name Allah as well. The actual name Allah is a word encompassing all his attributes and that which he refers to Himself by, such as The Unique, The Most Merciful, The One who has infinite knowledge and wisdom. Furthermore, the name Allah is even more fitting because the word has neither gender nor plural. Allah is not the God of just Muslims and Arabs but of all of mankind and the universe. Allah is the same one true God who sent the Prophets, such as Noah, Abraham, Jesus and Moses. The Muslim emotions or creed did deductions, not evolve rather it from is an affirmation of that which Allah has confirmed and informed mankind about Himself. He has done so in the best of manners by sending Scriptures and Prophets to the different nations. In the Quran, the book Muslims hold {He is Allah (God), besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped except Him, The Knower of hidden and the apparent. He is the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. He is Allah, besides Whom there is none that has the right to be worshipped except Him, the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creation, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! He is above all that they associate as partners with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, The Bestower of form. To Him belong the Finest Names. In actuality these beliefs do not make logical sense; for how can an idol help an individual if it can not even stop flies from landing on it? How can someone’s fate be changed by crossing fingers, or by a piece of iron that was nailed to a pony’s hoof? Is it not rational to seek help from The One who has complete, In Islam, it is not sufficient to just believe in God; a person must combine their belief with the sincere worship of Allah alone. This worship is not limited to praising and praying only, but every inward and outward action that is pleasing to Allah. A Muslim confidently believes that there is no might or power except with Allah so when they are in danger they turn to Allah first for their protection. When they do wrong they fear Allah because they know that they can never hide what they have done from Him; when they have a need they ask from Allah first and have An example of this is encouraging good and preventing evil; such as giving continuous charity and visiting the sick; or shunning discrimination and oppression. hope and reliance that He will give them what they ask for or better than it. In accordance with Allah’s commands, Muslims do not draw similarities between The Creator and the created. Allah has informed mankind about attributes He has such as His sight and hearing, however His seeing and hearing are incomparable to those of any created being. His are not weak or limited, rather there is nothing that He can not see or hear, He can see ∗ The pro-nouns ‘Him/He’ have been used, but they are not inciting that Allah has a gender. 1 worshipping Examples of this are: praying to and having unshared control over everything? Mankind can also come to know Allah by conveyed and into hearts and hear all thoughts. 2 3 In most religions there is a revered individual elderly white man with a white beard sitting on who is given a divine status, such as Jesus or a cloud in the sky. Allah is completely Unique and has ordered Mankind to worship Him alone without any partner, so no matter how raised the status an individual has they do not share ~ in Allah’s dominion and they can not be worshipped. It is prohibited in Islam to attribute things to Allah that do not befit His magnificence and perfection. Some examples of these things include: Him being dependent upon creation, tiring, being unjust, having to battle with an adversary such as the devil, resembling a Written & Compiled by Graeme Mujaahid Paterson [email protected] Third Edition August 2011 human being or incarnating Himself as one, all of which are totally unacceptable to Allah and those who truly know their Lord.
