The standard in the 2 MW class.
The Senvion MM series.
Performance cannot be measured
in megawatts alone.
Over 25 years in the business and more than 5,000 wind turbine
installations have given our company one of the most renowned
names in the wind energy industry. To date we have installed
wind turbines worldwide, with a combined output of more than
10 gigawatts – an achievement we are very proud of. And yet
we believe that performance cannot be measured in watts alone.
We are convinced: our success owes as much to our uncompromising engineering ingenuity as it is based on our employees’
dedication to providing the very best products and services for
our customers. While we are constantly aiming to improve our
own turbines, we also want to set new standards for the entire
market. A quarter of a century of pioneering work has taught
us: the more energy we invest in our own work, the higher the
yield for you.
A solution for every challenge.
We develop, produce and supply wind turbines to suit almost any
location, with a rated power ranging from 2 to 6.15 megawatts.
In addition we offer a complete range of project-specific solutions in
areas such as foundation construction, transport and installation as
well as service and maintenance.
The people behind the machines.
We are well aware that our turbines are not just powered by the
wind. We regard the commitment, knowledge and skill of our more
than 3,000 employees as one of the most important resources in
our company. Our working relationship with our customers and
suppliers is one of partnership and trust.
We make your project our project.
Whether a single wind turbine or a whole wind farm – we have a
personal interest in your project and keep an eye on every detail right
from the beginning. During the planning phase our engineers work
alongside you and other partners to ensure the wind turbine or the
wind farm are tailored exactly to your requirements. It means
that all processes are transparent throughout the entire life cycle of
your wind turbine, with clear communication in an uncomplicated
working partnership.
Quality and safety are paramount.
We are always striving to set new standards for innovation, quality
and health and safety at work, and our certificates in management
of health and safety at work (OHSAS 18001), environmental management (ISO 14001) and quality management (ISO 9001) are testament
to that. Our quality standards apply to all company departments.
While we always keep a close eye on the efficiency and reliability of
our wind turbines, we also ensure that our performance in areas such
as the sourcing of materials, delivery times and service is exemplary.
A solid investment.
At Senvion we focus on the technical aspects of your project without
ever losing sight of your investment objectives. We know that a
project can only be successful if you can produce kilowatt hours at
a price that can compete with other renewable and fossil fuel energy
sources. Reliability is the key to generating low-cost energy. As a
quality provider we aim to ensure that our turbines remain efficient
throughout their entire service life, from the moment of conception
to realisation, commissioning and service. Over numerous years
our wind turbines have built up a proven track record of reliability
and efficiency, and we are able to give you a contractual guarantee
regarding performance curve, technical availability and site-specific
sound emission limits.
The proven economic efficiency and reliability make our established MM series the bestseller in the Senvion portfolio. With
more than 3,500 installed and operating wind turbines it is the
standard in the 2MW class. The MM series is characterised
by its versatility: Three turbine types with different rotor sizes
and varying hub heights allow flexibility in all wind speeds and
location conditions.
MM82 – the classic turbine for high wind locations.
The success story of our MM series started in 2002 with the MM70
model. Its technology provided the basis for the development of
the Senvion MM82. With a rotor surface of 5,281 m², the 2.05 MW
wind turbine is predominantly designed to generate maximum
energy yields in high wind locations. Available in hub heights from
59 to 80 metres, this turbine is particularly suitable for locations
with height restrictions.
MM100 – turns low wind speed into revenue.
Even locations with low wind speeds can generate a high yield – if
you use the Senvion MM100 turbine. With a rotor diameter of 100 m,
a swept rotor area of 7,854 m² and hub heights ranging from 75 to
100 metres, the MM100 offers you all the prerequisites to utilise low
wind locations efficiently. In addition, its low sound power level of
103.8 dB(A) makes it one of the quietest systems in its class. For
onshore wind farms with a designated overall sound power level,
the MM100 can make the best possible use of the available space.
MM92 – our bestseller for medium and low wind locations.
The MM92 is based on the reliable gear box technology of the MM82.
With its rotor diameter of 92.5 metres the Senvion MM92 has a rated
power output of 2.05 megawatts even at wind speeds of only 12.5 m/s.
This makes it an ideal wind turbine for medium to low wind locations
and is another important step towards reducing the cost of generating
electricity. Its reliability, performance and efficiency make the Senvion
MM92 our top-selling wind turbine.

The Senvion MM series at a glance.
Our MM series is based on the evolutionary development of our
1.5 megawatt series whose variable speed generator/frequency
converter system and DC blade adjustment (pitch system) has
proven reliable for years. As a result, the second generation
models MM82, MM92 and MM100 offer the same high reliability
as their precursors.
Safety with the tilted cone concept.
The tilted cone concept combines a five degree incline of the drive
train and the pre-bending of the rotor blades. This provides an effective weight distribution and a safe load transfer. It also establishes a
sufficient distance between the rotor blades and the tower, preventing
a potential rotor strike even in strong gusts.
Integrated drive train concept.
The integrated drive train is at the heart of our wind turbines.
Everything works in harmony, from the rotor blades to the planetary/
spur wheel gearbox, the generator and the transformer. The perfect
interaction of the individual components generates a high energy
yield – while the sound power level remains negligible. Our technology relies on a powerful gear system which surpasses even the most
stringent AGMA standard (American Gear Manufacturers Association).
It enables us to use an efficient, high-speed generator at low rotor
speeds. This means we can keep sound power levels to a minimum,
even with large rotor diameters. The electrical system consisting of
a generator and converter provides a compact and low-loss solution
for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Innovative blade design for low sound emissions.
We have been developing our own blade profiles since 2002. The
special design of our rotor blades improves the aerodynamics of
the rotor so that adverse external conditions have no negative impact
on the wind turbine. This generates a high energy yield while the
sound emissions remain low.
Certified and renowned technology.
Our gearboxes guarantee low running costs. Their longevity is the
result of an extensive validation of our prototypes, regular quality
checks during the production process and the monitoring of turbines
in operation. Of more than 3,300 MM turbines installed worldwide,
over 95% (including 0-series gearboxes and prototypes) are still
operating with their first gearbox.

Highly developed pitch system.
The DC pitch system is the centrepiece of our wind turbine safety concept.
It allows quick and efficient pitching of the rotor blades, ensuring a
high energy yield in all operating conditions as well as providing
a safe emergency brake function when required. A redundant system
of three independent electrical motors guarantees a high operational
reliability. The additional battery backup can effect a controlled
shutdown at any time, even during a power failure.
Reliable lightning protection.
Our wind turbines are equipped with a fully integrated lightning
protection concept according to IEC protection class I, providing
both internal and external lightning protection. The external lightning
protection relies on blade receptors and a lightning rod on the
weather mast. Surge arresters protect the electrical system and
the generator is reliably protected by its electrically insulated
bearing shells.
Worldwide versatile.
Our MM series comes in a 60 Hz as well as a 50 Hz version. Special
solutions such as our hot or cold climate options make sure that your
turbines perform adequately even in extreme climate conditions.
The optimal wind turbine for your location.
During the planning phase we provide the necessary expert support to
help you analyse both the potentials and risks of any given location.
For instance, we identify location-specific hazards, analyse wind
conditions and deal with local restrictions regarding sound emissions
or shadow casting. This is our basis for optimising the layout of your
wind farm and choosing the appropriate wind turbines. The result:
an ideal solution for every location to help you generate optimal
energy yields.
Optional extras to maximise your yield.
Sound restrictions, shadow casting, bat protection, extreme climate
conditions – these are some of the aspects making location-specific
adaptations necessary. We have developed a host of optional products
which facilitate a smooth integration of your wind turbine into its
surroundings. For us, the protection of human and animal health is as
important as maximising your energy yield.
Reliable grid connection for your wind turbines.
Grid requirements vary all over the world. We know the requirements
of all important markets and have the experience of installing more
than 5,000 wind turbines to call upon. Simulations and layout recommendations during the design phase allow a site-specific integration
of your wind turbine into the grid, which significantly increases its
planning reliability.
