Center for Advanced Technical Studies 916 Mount Vernon Church Road Chapin, SC http://www.lexrich5.org/CATS.cfm 803-476-8600 Clean Energy Technology Engineering Report Format Most engineering reports follow a general format. They usually omit any theoretical considerations. The report must be typed using standard font (Arial, Times New Roman, etc…) with a 10 or 12 pt font. Make sure all tables, graphs, figures, and pictures are labeled appropriately. (For example: Table 1, Figure B, …) Use subscript/superscript characters as required and avoid using personal pronouns in this report. (I, we, they, us, me, etc…) Report Sections: A. Title Page- Contains all information needed to identify the name, partner names, project name, completion dates, and class information B. Nomenclature- List and define all science and engineering terms as well as measurements for the specific project. (A list of vocabulary will be provided to you for each project during this course) C. Introduction- After reading the entire project description, provide a brief summary in your own words concerning the purpose of this project. Then in narrative form, provide essential background information about this project and a brief summary of the procedures followed. D. Results and Discussion- This section constitutes the bulk of the engineering report. It should include data tables, mathematical calculations including formulas/units, and graphs of the project results. After the results are shown, then a narrative section should discuss the importance and relevance of the results obtained from the project study. E. Conclusions- After the results have been shown and discussed, what conclusions can be drawn about the project conducted. Avoid expressing personal opinions in this section and make your statements refer to experimental evidence that you obtained. However, mention accomplishments and challenges encountered by your team throughout the project. Be sure to state potential improvements if you were to spend more time on the project or start the project all over again. F. References- EVERY project engineering report should have a reference section. What sources did you use to perform background research before beginning the project? Which resources helped you define a clear experimental design approach? Where did you find the definitions to those technical vocabulary terms? Be sure to always cite your sources in APA format for engineering reports. Consider using Zotero (www.zotero.org) or other free, web programs to generate your reference lists in the correct format. Please remember that Engineering Reports are an individual student effort. Even though you performed the project experimentation with your team/group, this report must be generated by yourself. Plagiarism violates the District Five Honor Code and will not be tolerated. All assignments must be printed at home or at your home school and the printed copy turned in by the due date for grading. NO EMAIL OR ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR CREDIT! Engineering Reports count as MAJOR assignments in Clean Energy Technology courses, so remember that 10 points per day will be deducted from your grade for late assignment submissions.
