The mandate of the AFP is “Protect the people and state, and secure the sovereignty of the
state and integrity of the national territory.” The Philippine Navy, Army, and Air Force are the three
major services that make up the Philippine Armed Forces. The Philippines' Armed Forces are in charge
of protecting the country's sovereignty, maintaining the Constitution, and preserving the country's
territorial integrity. The President is the country's head of state and government. The President is also
the Commander-in-Chief of the Philippine Armed Forces. This includes the ability to declare martial
law and suspend the writ of habeas corpus.
