The first thing I would have students do is
color match each strip which will show if
they know about the layers.
Example:
The crust strip is colored pink and the strip
that says “thinnest layer of the earth” is
also colored pink.
Then, the students will cut the entire earth
template and glue the strips (only the left side
should be glued to create a ‘pop out’ look) in
between the lines according to the layer. For
example the strips that say “inner core” and
“the hottest part of the earth” are glued in the
inside circle to show that this is where the inner
core should be. (Since they already should have
them colored, it should be easy to know which
strips should be placed together.)

This is a big template so there are two pages each containing half of a circle. When you glue the two
templates together to create a full circle, you can fill in information according to each layer. One half
of the circle should include the name of the layer, and the other half should include facts. Then, you
can color and fold up half of the circle to create a pop up effect as shown in the picture above.

I would have the students write facts under each layer and then color each
layer a different color as shown in the picture below. (you can have them
get their information from the PowerPoint included in your download.) ☺

Before cutting out the template, have the
students answer the two questions on the
side and label the earth’s layers. Then, the
students can cut the template to create
flaps and glue only the left section in their
notebooks. Under each layer flap, the
students can write information, facts,
drawings or anything they know about each
layer. You can have them get information
from the PowerPoint included in this
download. If there is enough time, I would
allow the student to color each flap a
different color as shown in the picture
below.
