SNC 1D Assignment: Roll A Circuit! If you roll… Roll #1 (Loads) Roll #2 (Types of loads) Roll #3 (Sources) Roll #4 (Other components) 2 loads in series Bulbs only Single cell Include an ammeter to measure current entering power source AND a switch that controls multiple loads 2 loads in parallel One bulb; any other loads are motors Two cells in series Include an ammeter to measure current entering a load AND a voltmeter that measures total potential difference of power source 1 load parallel to 2 more loads in series One resistor; any other loads are bulbs Two cells in parallel Include an ammeter to measure current leaving power source AND a voltmeter to measure potential difference of a load 3 loads in parallel Resistors only Three cells in series Include a voltmeter to measure potential difference of a load AND a switch that controls power returning to the power supply 2 loads in series AND 3 more loads in parallel One motor; any other loads are your choice Two cells in series PLUS one cell parallel to those If possible, include a switch that controls only one load. If this is not possible, do not include ANY extra components. 3 loads in series AND 2 more loads in parallel All loads are your choice Three cells in parallel If possible, include a switch that controls only one load. If this is not possible, choose either an ammeter or a voltmeter and wire it correctly to your circuit wherever you like. Instructions: Roll a die four times. Keep track of your rolls on the back of this page. Draw a schematic circuit diagram that accurately represents the instructions for each roll. Be sure to use the symbols we have learned in class and use a ruler to make straight horizontal and vertical lines to represent wires. You will repeat this process two times, but you can only roll a number in each column ONE time. Keep rolling until you roll a different number and build a different circuit! Record the rolls and draw your circuit diagrams on the reverse of this page. Next, draw a third diagram using proper symbols and conventions. It should include 6-10 components (including loads, sources, and at least two other components; use as many wires as you need). On a separate page, write out a description of this diagram. Be sure that the description is detailed enough that another student can draw the circuit you are describing. You may use complete sentences or jot notes for your description. Evaluation: Communicates effectively using scientific conventions (symbols, lines, ruler) within diagrams Draws two complete circuits accurately based on instructions provided by dice rolls (including correct components, correct placement/wiring of components, complete circuits) /8 Draws third circuit of choice (based on outlined requirements) and describes what was drawn accurately and effectively, and with sufficient detail that a student could recreate the circuit based only on the description /4 Draws another student’s described circuit with accuracy, based on the other student’s description. /2 /6 Diagram 1: Roll #1 ______, Roll #2 ______, Roll #3 ______, Roll #4 ______ Diagram 2: Roll #1 ______, Roll #2 ______, Roll #3 ______, Roll #4 ______ Diagram 3: Design your own circuit (see requirements above). On a separate page, describe it. How many loads (and what type), how many sources, how is everything connected, what are your extra components doing, etc.?
