About the Program
The Athletic Trainer Program accommodates both Board of Certification
(BOC) certified athletic trainers and Board of Certification (BOC) “certification
eligible” athletic trainers. The AT Program is a collaboration of the University
of Kentucky College of Health Sciences, UK Athletics, and UK Sports Medicine.
Graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Funding for the
assistantships is provided through UK Athletics, local sports medicine clinics,
and high schools.
What careers or educational options can I pursue with an Athletic
Training degree?
Athletic Training (AT) graduates can be employed in various environments
including but not limited to:
• university settings
• high school clinics
• sport medicine clinics
• professional sports
• or pursue post-professional opportunities such as residencies and
academic doctorates
What is an Athletic Trainer?
Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly
qualified, multi-skilled health care
professionals who collaborate with
physicians to provide preventative
services, emergency care, clinical
diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and
rehabilitation of injuries and medical
conditions.
Athletic trainers work under the direction
of a physician as prescribed by state

Application Process & Requirements
Students interested in applying to the program should visit the website:

Inquiries in Athletic Training will be directed to the Director of Graduate
Studies who will forward them to the Program Coordination Committee for
consideration. Recommendations for admission will be provided by this
committee. All candidates must meet general admission requirements as
stipulated by The Graduate School. Students who are certified must also be
