RARE CANCER NETWORK Dr. Yasmin Lassen-Ramshad Centre François Baclesse Centre National de Radiothérapie B.P. 436 L-4005 Esch/Alzette Luxembourg Tel: + 352 265566-1 Fax : + 352 26556646 To all members of the Rare Cancer Network Esch, June12, 2007 Re: Study on glomus tumours Dear Colleagues, Glomus tumours or paragangliomas are rare benign tumours that take their origin from glomus bodies arising from the neuroendocrine extra-adrenal sympathetic system and are mainly found in the head and neck area. Rare cases of malignant paragangliomas have also been described and a rare hereditary form is also known. Treatment of these tumours consists in surgery, radiotherapy or a wait-and-see approach. Surgery has been described as the ideal, “curative” treatment approach, although complete removal of the tumor is often not possible without severe neurological complications. Radiotherapy or radiosurgery has been described as a good alternative in several case reports with low morbidity and a good efficacy to stop tumor progression. I would like to propose this study on glomus tumours treated with radiotherapy or radiosurgery to members of the rare cancer network. The objectives of the study would be to assess disease outcome and complications in relation to different radiotherapy techniques. . Please would you be so kind as to complete the attached interest form and return it to the address given (by 1st of August 2007). If there is sufficient interest we will forward the data forms by e-mail for completion. Hoping for your collaboration Sincerely yours, Yasmin Lassen - Ramshad
