Practice leader for D&B planning, design and execution, influencing technology and innovation to develop cutting edge capabilities in D&B practice in the Group. Support the development and maintenance of D&B best practice guidelines across the group and drive the implementation for individual operations to optimise value delivery across the full value chain. Support the process of consultation with Group operations and relevant disciplines in T&S on best practice, optimisation and appropriate technology development. Advocate D&B best practice through internal forums and leveraging networks to enhance capability. Develops and maintains relevance of own technical and business expertise and ensures transfer of knowledge across the Group. Identify opportunities to maximise value to Anglo American at all times providing safety, health and environmental impacts are considered and not compromised. ROLE RELATIONSHIPS Managerially Accountable to: Lead Drill and Blast Design Key Internal Relationships: Head of Mine Modernisation Group Head of Mining Heads of T&S disciplines Heads, Leads and Principals of other T&S Mining disciplines Managers at Operations Relevant production personnel Key External Relationships: Relevant contacts in D&B discipline. Relevant industry groups and forums. Direct Reports (if applicable): None 1 Principal Drill and Blast This role profile acts as a guide to the role only and additional work outcomes may be required to be performed by the incumbent CAPABILITY REQUIRED TO DO THE ROLE Mental Processing Ability Application/Energy Knowledge and Experience Evidence of ability to complete work of level III complexity. This work involves systems thinking to construct models that help to understand the design of the system. It involves discerning a trend from a flow of significant, real events to design and construct a system in a single field to cope with it. The system may need to be altered as the trend changes. Consistently displays a positive and engaged manner Motivated and driven to meet high standards of delivery which create high customer approval Remains focused in times of uncertainty and ambiguity Displays considerable personal effort to improve Formal qualifications: The applicant must have the following qualifications: o Essential requirement: Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mining) o Essential requirement: Post Graduate qualification – Master of Philosophy or other Master’s degree in Engineering, specifically Mining). Essential Skills: Evidence of utilising technical D&B expertise to analyse and understand complex issues or opportunities in different commodities. Formulating solutions, applying models to assess opportunities and effectively communicating requirements to Management and operational colleagues. Evidence of idea development and approach to shape D&B strategy for a variety of mining operations across multiple regions and in a large scale international corporate environment. Evidence of specific D&B improvement programs that have been developed for a mining operation, including project plans and ongoing management of implementations. Evidence of identifying skill gaps and working to build capability through developing targeted training and education. Evidence of ability of work closely with senior management and operational colleagues to implement D&B strategy/programs/initiatives and deliver the desired outcomes. Evidence of collating a variety of information from multiple work streams (such as Geosciences, Processing, Supply Chain, Safety & Sustainable Development) and consider all inputs to develop optimised designs e.g. mine to mill, minimisation of damage to pit limits, minimise impact of blasts on external stakeholders. Safety: Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing risk across the life cycle of explosives. Technical Skills Ability to / technical requirements: Essential requirement: Must be an ‘Advanced User’ of D&B design and mine planning software. Technical People Way Competencies: Process Optimisation (Level 3) Understands the mining lifecycle, value chain and impact of mining activities on business and operational performance. Optimises mining processes and operations through effective financial, labour and project management.
