Jim Clover, MED, ATC, PTA
Jim Clover is the coordinator of The SPORT Clinic in Riverside CA, which currently cares for
athletes of 40+ high schools and colleges. Additionally, he teaches sports medicine classes
for local high schools and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries at California State
University, San Bernardino. Jim is also the owner of Clover Enterprise Inc. a business that
provides athletic training coverage to 30+ high schools in the Southern California
region. Known for his innovative thinking and practical implementation of interventions,
Jim is the inventor of the Trainer’s Angel, a tool used to remove facemaks from football
helmets in emergency situations. He has also authored several videos and books on
various athletic training topics. Jim is the coordinator for the Inland Empire All-Star
Football Classic, and he has organized the popular continuing education course titled,
"Practical Applications in Sports Medicine" for the past 20 years, dedicated to the many
individual stakeholders seeking immediate and first-hand information that can be readily
applied to the clinical setting. Jim is a supporter of giving back to his community, as many
of his endeavors are managed through the non-for-profit SPORT Foundation.
Cameron Moreland, MS, CSCS, CPT
Cameron Moreland Cameron Moreland holds a Master's Degree in Kinesiology with a focus
on Strength and Conditioning from Cal. State Fullerton. He is a Certified Strength &
Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) through the
National Strength and Conditioning Association. As a former professional BMX Freestyle
rider of 9 years, Cameron has taken his passion and focused his research and training on
Action Sports Athletes. Cameron is a Sale's Representative for OrthoXpress , as well as
serves as the Director of Action Sports for Baller Athletics a non-profit organization
Mike Lamb, VP
Mike Lamb, a college football star, former radio announcer and father of a Del Oro athlete,
is Wells Fargo’s chief salesman for the plan.
Jamie Skipper, BS, CKTP – Jamie Skipper is pursuing her Master's of Science degree in
Athletic Training at California Baptist University. Currently, she is a certified kinesiotape
practitioner. She is pursuing the CES and CSCS at this time. As of late, Jamie has been
formally trained in PRT and Gavilán techniques to further her research in somatic
dysfunction.
Michael Bueti, BS, FMS, USAW - Graduate Student at California Baptist College and

Mark Espinosa, MS, ATC

Mark Espinosa joined the UC Riverside Sports Medicine staff in March of 2007. Espinosa
received his master's degree in kinesiology/athletic training from Indiana University in
2004, after completing a bachelor's degree in kinesiology/athletic training at San Diego
State in 2003. He also has a bachelor's degree in psychology from UC Santa Barbara, earned
in 1995. He worked as the graduate assistant athletic trainer for baseball and tennis at
Indiana in 2003-04, and worked as the intern athletic trainer for wrestling, judo and
gymnastics at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in 2004-05 and was the
athletic trainer for the 2005 Taekwondo World Championships in Madrid, Spain. Most
recently he worked as the head athletic trainer at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix
during the 2005-06 school year.
Tony Ontiveros, MA, ATC
Tony Ontiveros joined the UC Riverside Athletics Department as the head athletic trainer in
the summer of 2003. He was appointed to his current position in the Fall of 2006.
Ontiveros came to UCR from the San Diego Spirit of the Women’s United Soccer Association,
where he served as head athletic trainer for two seasons. From 1994 through 2001 he was
the assistant athletic trainer at the University of California, San Diego, where he was
responsible for the care and prevention of athletic injuries for the Triton’s 23
intercollegiate teams. Ontiveros spent several years providing care for USA’s elite athletes
while working with the United States Olympic Sports Medicine program. He has traveled
internationally working with the US National Field Hockey Team, the 1998 World Youth
Games in Moscow, Russia, and the 1999 Pan Am Games. In 2000 he was selected to
represent the United States as a member of the Paralympics Sports Medicine Staff in
Sydney, Australia.
Andy Paulin, ATC
Andy Paulin has been Head Athletic Trainer at Mt. SAC since 1983 and leads the large
football athletic training staff and directs the medical care of Baseball, Men's Swimming,
Women's Swimming and Wrestling. Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Paulin was the Head
Trainer at California State Bakersfield (1980-1983) and Don Lugo High School (19781980). Paulin served on the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board of
Directors for six years, representing California, Nevada and Hawaii. He also served as past
President of the California Athletic Trainers Association and has served two-six year terms.
He is an instructor of Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Classes at Mt. SAC. He previously
taught athletic training classes at Cal Poly Pomona, L.A. College of Chiropractic, and with
the LA84 Foundation Coaches Education Program. Paulin has served as Head Athletic
Trainer on numerous USA Track and Field National Teams and served in the 1984 Los
Angeles Olympic Games as the Judo Venue Athletic Trainer Coordinator. In 2011, Paulin
received the highest honor in his profession with his induction into the NATA Hall of Fame.
He was also inducted into the Far West Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame
(FWATA )in 2009. Through the years, Paulin has also been honored as the NATA Most
Distinguished Athletic Trainer (2009), NATA Athletic Trainer of the Year (2006) and the
Community College Athletic Trainer of the Year (2006).

Graduated in 1996 from Loma Linda University with an A.S. from the Physical Therapist
Assistant program. Earned a B.S. in Health Sciences in 1998 and completed a Progressive
Master's in Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2000. Graduated from the
Post-Professional Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program at Loma Linda University in
March 2002. Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and Board
Certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist since 2003. Specialist in the treatment of

John Valencia, AT, ATC, CSCS
John M. Valencia has been an athletic trainer since 1986. He is a graduate of Cornell
University and has extensive athletic training experience which spans providing athletic
training services at the collegiate, high school, elite international, youth, clinical and
professional level. His expertise continues into the industrial athletic realm where he has
been involved with the care of firefighters and ballerinas. In addition to being the owner of
Arizona Sports Care, Mr. Valencia also serves as the Head Athletic Trainer of Salpointe
Catholic High School. Mr. Valencia's professional involvement has included being a former
vice-president of the Arizona Athletic Trainer's Association, Inc., and a chairperson of many
of its committees. He has been a speaker at various symposiums and workshops, and has
served as a sports medicine consultant to many school districts, the AIA, the USTA, and he
has been a volunteer faculty member of a local American Heart Association Training Center.

Brian Bowen, MBA
Brian graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire in 1986 with a BBA in
Marketing. He received an MBA in 1996 from the prestigious Kellogg Graduate School of
Management at Northwestern University majoring in Management, Marketing, and
Strategy. Brian has frequently guest lecturer in marketing and research topics at both
Northwestern University and UW-Eau Claire. After five years with PepsiCo in sales
management, Brian moved into the medical field with BASF’s Knoll Pharmaceuticals
serving as Marketing Director for Synthroid, one of the world’s most widely prescribed
medications. He helped create Thyroid Awareness Month, an annual PR program driving
awareness of undiagnosed thyroid disease. In 1997, he purchased Bowen Medical, a
Minneapolis-based orthopedic distribution firm selling various bracing/immobilization
products. Since 1999, he has taught splinting techniques and principles of bracing at the
Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota medical schools. He has consulted on strategy and
design for numerous brace manufacturers. In 2005, he completed the Pedorthics program

at the William Scholl College of Podiatry in Chicago. As an ABC certified pedorthist and CMS
supplier, he provided advanced diabetic foot care modalities. He then moved to the OR with
Wright Medical, helping launch Wright’s foot + ankle surgical reconstruction portfolio. In
2011, he joined Exos Medical as Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Product
Development. Brian’s passion is blending marketing research with emerging treatment
pathways. At Exos, he has worked closely with clinical advisors on product design and
treatment algorithms. Brian has served his church on various disaster-relief mission trips
to Central and South America. He and his wife Lisa have four young children under the age
of 12.
Phil Dalton – President and CEO
Phil Dalton founded MDS, a national health care consulting firm, which has grown to two
offices located in Torrance and Costa Mesa, California. He has over 25 years of experience
in health care strategy, business development, marketing, policy and planning. He has
developed strategic, facility, business and marketing plans for hospitals, outpatient centers,
health systems, physician groups, HMOs, joint ventures and other health related businesses.
Mr. Dalton has frequently evaluated hospital acquisitions and sales for client hospitals and
the California Attorney General’s Office. He frequently advises on complicated issues
associated with physician-hospital integration, evolving health care business models and
health care reform. He often speaks at health care conferences and authors articles on
industry trends.
Mr. Dalton’s previous experience includes senior positions with other major national
consulting firms and health systems.
Mr. Dalton received his MS from Harvard University in health policy and management and
a MPH from the University of Minnesota.
Ellen Coleman, RD, MA, MPH
Coleman has been a practicing sports dietitian and exercise physiologist for more than 30
years and a member of ADA since 1978. Coleman is a board-certified specialist in sports
dietetics and a certified program director for the American College of Sports Medicine. Her
contributions to the dietetics profession include books, chapters, continuing education
courses and the publication of more than 300 scholarly articles. Coleman is the author of
Eating for Endurance (Bull Publishing Company 2003), which is in its fourth edition and
considered one of the best nutrition resources available for endurance athletes. Coleman is
a past chair of ADA's Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition dietetic practice group
and a nutrition consultant for professional baseball, basketball and hockey teams as well as
the SPORT clinic. She is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University and received
master's degrees from the University of California–Davis and Loma Linda University.
Jerome F. Wall, MD
Jerome F. Wall, MD Orthopaedic Surgeon Director of The SPORT Foundation History:
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, IL was lucky enough to have
started out Dr. Wall's career in 1970. His residency was completed at Northwestern

University in 1975 and since then Dr. Wall has become incredibly accomplished and
recognized. Highlights: Knee, Sports Medicine. Founder of The SPORT Foundation in 1981.
This foundation has run 25 All-Star Football Classics and 20 sports medicine seminars"

Ned Bergert, ATC
Regularly sought for his athletic health care expertise, Ned Bergert was a lecturer at Cal
State Poly (Pomona)for five years and also lectures to high school students on the dangers
of spit tobacco. This past May, Bergert was chosen to receive the prestigious "Athletic
trainers Service Award" by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). The national
award is given to "athletic trainers that have achieved a degree of excellence in their field
profession both on and off the field. In 1998, was honored with "Major League Athletic
Training Staff of the Year" honors from PBATS and received a "Special Recognition Award"
from the Far West Athletic Trainers Association. A member of the St. Ambrose University
Hall of Fame since 1987, Bergert represented the American League in the 1991 and 2002
MLB All- Star Game. In his 32nd year in the Angels organization, Bergert began his career
as athletic trainer of the Class A Quad Cities Angels in 1975. Three years later he was
promoted to the parent club. The Davenport, Iowa, native has donated his free time to the
American Cancer Society and Boy Scouts of America. Serves as exhibit coordinator for the
PBATS Team Medicine Conference, 2004 Japans MLB-All Star Tour Athletic Trainer, PBATS
Newsletter, and a member of NATA Grant and Scholarship Committee. In addition, he
assists with charitable efforts to help children and the homeless. Bergert, his wife, Sandra,
and two sons, Chad and Scott both Eagle Scouts), reside in Yorba Linda, Calif.
Jeff Konin, PHD, ATC, PT, FACSM, FNATA
Dr. Jeff Konin is currently the Director of Athletics at Eastern Connecticut State University,
in Willimantic, Connecticut. Prior to this role, he was an Associate Professor and the Vice
Chair of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida, in Tampa, FL,
where he also served as the Executive Director of the Sports Medicine and Athletic Related
Trauma (SMART) Institute and the Director of the Graduate Athletic Training Program.
Konin, a native of Hamden, is a nationally recognized expert in the field of sports medicine
and athletic training, and has significant teaching and administrative experience in
collegiate athletics in his current positions at the University of South Florida as vice chair of
the Department of Ortho and Sports Medicine and executive director of the Sports Medicine
and Athletic Related Trauma Institute Before his appointment at South Florida, Konin
served as an assistant athletic director at James Madison University in Harrisonburg,
VA. His academic appointments include faculty positions at Delaware Technical and
Community College, James Madison University and the University of South Florida.
Konin has authored and edited academic texts and numerous journal articles and is a
frequent national and international lecturer on athletic and sports-related topics. He also
served on the 1996 medical staff for the Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA, and currently
serves as the medical coordinator for Team USA Wheelchair Rugby. After earning his
Bachelor of Science degree at Eastern in 1988, Konin received his master's degree in
education from the University of Virginia in 1989, a master's degree in physical therapy in
1994 from the University of Delaware, and his doctorate from Nova Southeastern
University in 2004.

Doug Calland, MS, ATC
Doug Calland, a member of the Ohio State athletic training staff since 1995, serves as head
athletic trainer for the Buckeyes and is in charge of overseeing the football program and all
aspects of athletic training in the Ohio State athletics department. He helped oversee the
finishing touches of the athletic training center in the $19 million renovation to the WHAC.
Calland, from Columbus, is a graduate of Whetstone High School. He graduated from Ohio
State in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a minor in health
education. As an undergraduate, he spent four years on the athletic training staff working
with a variety of sports, including football. Prior to his graduation from OSU, Calland
served as the head athletic trainer for the Pittsburgh Pirates Rookie League team in
Bradenton, Fla. Following his graduation from Ohio State, Calland was a graduate assistant
athletic trainer for two years at Oklahoma State University. While there, he worked with
the wrestling program and assisted with football. He earned his master's degree in
educational administration from Oklahoma State in 1983. Immediately after graduation,
Calland joined the athletic training staff at the University of Washington, where he spent 11
years working primarily with football and men's basketball. In 1994, he was promoted to
assistant head athletic trainer. While he was at Washington, the Huskies played in three
Rose Bowls and captured the 1991 national championship. Calland returned to Ohio State
in 1995 to work with the football team. He has had oversight of the football program since
2000, was named co-head athletic trainer in 2005 and named head athletic trainer in 2007.
During the 2007 season, he was the first non-player to receive the Jim Parker hit of the
week award, for the Purdue game. Calland is a member National Athletic Trainers
Association and the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association. He serves on the NATA's National
Honors and Awards Committee. He also serves on the NFL/Collegiate Athletic Trainer
Committee.
Jennifer Novack, MS, ATC
Jenn Novak, who returned to Ohio State in 2009, is responsible for the coverage of the
men's soccer, softball and women's tennis teams. Novak received a Bachelor of Science in
athletic training from Kent State in 2005 and a Master of Science in allied health
management from Ohio State in 2007. Prior to returning to Columbus, she spent two years
as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Minnesota where she was responsible
for the coverage of the men's gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving
teams. In addition to her training responsibilities, Novak also teaches courses in athletic
training and therapeutic modalities. In 2010, she was named the Clinical Instructor of the
Year. Novak has attended numerous state and national conventions and is a member of the
National Athletic Trainers' Association, The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association and
Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association. She currently resides in Hilliard, Ohio.
William E. Prentice Jr, PhD, ATC, PT, FNATA
William E. Prentice is recognized as an author, educator, and clinician. He received both BS
and MS degrees from the University of Delaware, a PhD degree in sports medicine and
applied physiology from the University of Virginia and BSPT degree in physical therapy
from the University of North Carolina. He is a Professor in the Department of Exercise and
Sport Science, and has served as the Program Director of the NATA Accredited Post6|Page
Professional Athletic Training Education Program at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill since 1980. He started his career as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Temple
University prior to beginning his PhD at Virginia. He also served for ten years as the
Director of Sports Medicine Education for the HealthSouth Corporation.
Prentice is the author of nine textbooks most notably Principles of Athletic Training,
Essentials of Athletic Injury Management, Athletic Training: An Introduction to
Professional Practice, Therapeutic Modalities in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, ,
Rehabilitation Techniques in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, Therapeutic Modalities
for Physical Therapists, Musculoskeletal Intervention: Techniques for Therapeutic Exercise,
and Get Fit, StayFit. He has published more than 80 journal articles and abstracts, and has
made more than 185 lectures and presentations. Prentice served as the Athletic Trainer for
the Women’s Soccer Program at the University of North Carolina for 26 years since1980
and during that period the team won 17 NCAA and one AIAW National Championships.
Prentice has been the recipient of numerous awards from the NATA including most notably
the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 1999; the Sayers “Bud” Miller
Distinguished Athletic Training Educator Award in 1997; and, the Educational Multimedia
Committee Videotape Production Award in 1997. In June 2004, Dr. Prentice was inducted
into the National Athletic Trainers Association’s Hall of Fame. In June 2006, the NATA
established the William E. Prentice Doctoral Scholarship that will be presented annually in
his name. In June, 2008, Dr. Prentice was selected in the inaugural class as an NATA Fellow.
Marco Nunez, ATC
Marco Nuñez joins the Lakers for his second season as Assistant Athletic Trainer after
spending the previous two seasons as Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the
NBA Development League. While working for the D-Fenders since their inaugural season
in 2006-07, Nuñez also served as Athletic Trainer for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks for
three seasons from 2005-07. An Assistant Trainer for the Los Angeles Avengers of the
Arena Football League from 1999-2003, he also spent one season as Athletic Trainer for the
Carolina Cobras of the AFL in 2004 prior to joining the Sparks. In the summer and fall of
that same year, Nuñez worked as a trainer for the movie "The Longest Yard," attending to
the actors, stuntmen and athletes on set. A graduate of Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in
Kinesiology and emphasis in Sports Medicine, Nuñez was born in San Diego but grew up in
Los Angeles, graduating from Bishop Mora Salesian High School where he lettered in
baseball. When not at practice, a game or traveling with the team, the self-proclaimed
"weekend warrior" still enjoys baseball and basketball in his free-time along with spending
time with family and friends.

Jenny Archuleta, BS
Jenny received her Bachelor of Science degree in exercise biology from the University of
California, Davis in 2011. She will be completing her Entry-Level Master's degree in athletic

Rich Potash, CEO
Rich Potash received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from MIT.
His thesis (to computerize the first CYBEX machine) was through the Harvard-MIT Health
Sciences Technology program. After graduating, he founded CSMi to commercialize the
CYBEX Software. CSMi has continued developing products for the Physical Rehabilitation
and Athletic Training markets, including the SportsWare™ Injury Tracking Program.

Alena Mohd-Yusof - BS – Is currently a Master's Student at California State University, San
Bernardino. Her research is in General Experimental Psychology and she is a Research
Assistant in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Loma Linda University. Her
presentation "Traumatic Brain Injury: From pathology to treatment strategies" will focus
on the cascade of events that occurs biologically in the brain after an impact and its
detrimental effects.

Stacey Ritter, MS, ATC
Stacey Jensen Ritter, MS, ATC is Director of Sports Medicine & Athletic Training, overseeing
the high school outreach, and industrial athletic training programs. After completing her
education, she served as Associate Director of Athletic Training, and Department of Sports
Sciences instructor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. After many years as a
university Athletic Trainer, Stacey moved to the high school setting, and found a true
mission in bringing the highest standard of athletic health care to young competitors. Over
the years, she has worked with Olympians, professional athletes and NCAA champions, and
has been on several international playing tours with athletic teams. Areas of special
interest include psychology of injury, the adolescent athlete experience, and concussion
education. She also finds time to serve on boards and committees that advance and
promote the role of Athletic Trainers in the high school setting.
Chris Marker. DO - completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at NYU
Langone Medical Center in 2008. He is board certified in physical medicine and
rehabilitation. He has been working at Community Medical Group of Riverside for over
four years. He is currently the medical director for the SPORT concussion clinic, where he
has successfully treated over 300 concussions. In his private practice he also treats all
musculoskeletal disorders and sports related injuries. In addition, he performs
electrodiagnostic testing for nerve and muscle diseases and also performs interventional
spine procedures in the lumbar spine under fluoroscopic guidance.
Kathryn M. Taylor - Doctoral Student in the Department of Environmental Health at the
Harvard School of Public Health.
Tammi Gaw, MS, ATC, Esq. is the Founder and Executive Director of Advantage Rule, LLC.
She has more than 20 years combined experience as an attorney and an ATC. Currently,
she works with athletes and sports organizations to help them succeed in the world of
responsible philanthropy through sustainable partnerships and dignified engagement with
local communities. Tammi is a published author and speaks on topics including sports
business, how to avoid the trappings of debt as a student, and how to overcome your fear of

Rob Brandon, MPT, ATC
Rob graduated from California State University, Hayward in 1992 with a BS in Kinesiology
and became an ATC the same year. In 1995 he graduated from The University of Southern
California, Department of BioKinesiology and Physical Therapy with a Masters in Physical
Therapy. He worked at the University of Southern California Faculty Practice for two years
as an Instructor, Clinical PT, and Center Clinical Coordinator for Education. There he
treated patients with general and acute orthopedic, vestibular/balance, neurological and
chronic pain conditions. In 1998, he returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he has
been practicing at a PT-owned outpatient facility in Novato. Rob continues to advance his
knowledge of the human body and ways to help it function better. He is well versed in the

spine, foot, knee, and shoulder areas. He is a graduate of the 1999 Folsom Manual Therapy
Course and has extensive continuing education and clinical experiences in other body areas.
Rob was introduced to the Kinesio Taping Method and became a Certified Kinesio Taping
Instructor in 2002. He has taught many courses to a variety of clinicians, including PT's,
OT's, CMT's, Acupuncturists, and Chiropractors. In 2004, he was recognized as Kinesio
Taping Instructor of the Year. Rob is recognized by the NATABOC as an Approved Provider.
He lectures internationally and is an instructor for Rob Brandon Seminars and the Kinesio
Taping Association.
Tony Ciareili
As an athlete, Tony was an All-Orange County athlete in both football and track, where he
was 59-foot shot putter at Huntington Beach High School. As a collegian, he became a
javelin thrower—first at Orange Coast College, then at the University of Hawaii—where he
recorded a best of 244’ 0”. As a submaster athlete, Tony was the 1989 National Champion
in the shot put and continues to throw the javelin in Masters Competition where he has a
best of 214’ 4”. Tony started his track & field coaching career in 1979 at Damien High
School in Hawaii. He moved to Edison H.S. in Huntington Beach, CA in 1982, where he also
coached football and weightlifting. He moved to Newport Harbor High School in 1989, then
to Huntington Beach H.S. in 1997, then back to Newport Harbor in 2005—where he
continues to coach the discus throwers, shot put throwers, football, and weightlifting. High
school champions that Tony has produced include eight 60-ft shot putters, and eight 180-ft
discus throwers, including three over 200’ Scott Moser (213′ 11″) and Bo Taylor (213′
7″)—the #1 and #2 prep discus throwers in California history along with Ethan Cochran
who threw 201’4” to win the Silver Medal at the World Championships in Lille France this
past summer. In total, he has coached 40 California State Meet qualifiers, 4 State
Champions, 5 National Scholastic Meet Champions, 3 Golden West Meet Champions, and 6
High School All America performers. In 1994 Tony was selected California Track Coach of
the Year.
