Texila American University - College of Dentistry is the First
Private Dental school in the Guyana. The college of Dentistry
works with the College of Medicine to deliver programs in
Basic sciences that are common to the medical and Dental
students.
College of Dentistry collaborates with the Cheddi Jagan
Dental centre [ CDC] which functions under the Ministry of
Health in Guyana. Cheddi Jagan Dental centre has some of
the best clinical Facilities available in the English Speaking
Caribbean region.
CDC & TAU - College of Dentistry Collaborates to offer both
patient care services and academic programs. College of
Dentistry is also building up Community Outreach programs.
The College of Dentistry provides opportunities for students
to train and experience comprehensive patient care in an
unparalleled learning environment with internationally
recognized faculty

5.5 Years Doctor of Dentistry Program
The 5.5 year Intensive program is created for students from
High school & those from NON -Pre Medical - Pre Dental
back ground. The first 16 months of the program emphasis on
Pre Medical Education which focuses on preparing the
students for the rigorous dental education ahead
The 5.5 year Doctor of Dentistry program is Divided into 3
Parts.
1) Pre Dental Program
2) Pre Clinical Program
3) Clinical Rotationt

Pre Dental Program
The curriculum has been organized and designed to support
the mission of training dentists to meet the dental health care
needs of all sections of societies including the rural and other
underserved areas, by insuring a superior medical education,
by developing independent, life-long learning skills and by
continual practice in the application of medical knowledge to
patient problems.
The curriculum in the first two years is designed to facilitate
the students' acquisition of fundamental knowledge and skills
as well as to develop attitudes appropriate to the practice of
community responsive medicine.
TAU has a two semester program in each academic year. Each
semester is of five-month duration.
Dental Clinical training will be done in Our Affiliated
Hospital in Guyana- The Georgetown Hospital & the Cheddi
Jagan Dental Center
Eligibility
1. Students from HIGH school Equivalent to 12 years of
Education or Equivalent
2. Student with NON- Pre medical College Credits
Students who have earned 90 college level credit hours from
undergraduate institutions or concurrently during the
completion of secondary school are encouraged to apply to
the 4 years Dentistry Program, where the student will join the
program at Pre-Clinical phase since those science based 90
college level credit hours will be considered in the admissions
process.
4 Years Doctor of Dentistry Program
The 4 year Intensive program is created for students from Pre
Medical - Pre Dental background.
The 5.5 year Doctor of Dentistry program is Divided into 2
Parts.

2) Clinical Rotation

Eligibility
All applicants applying for the 4 year DDS Dentistry Program
are required to finish at least 2 academic years (90 credit
hours) of undergraduate studies which includes the following
subjects:
Ÿ English
Ÿ Biology
Ÿ General Chemistry
Ÿ Organic Chemistry
Ÿ Physics
Ÿ Calculus
These requirements are mandated by individual State
Medical Boards in the United States and are required for
medical licensure in each respective state in USA and else
where.
The students with high school level or equivalent education
with no college level credits are encouraged to apply to 5.5
Years Doctor of Dentistry program, where the students are
provded with the Pre medicine program to prepare the
students with 90 college level credit hours, which is required
to enter the 4 year Dentistry program at the Pre-Clinical
Phase.
