Strategic technology roadmapping on personalized medicine in Taiwan Background Research Methods The Science and Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI) at National Applied Research Laboratories of Taiwan is sponsored by the government to undertake foresight, horizon scanning and other policy analysis tasks. A new round of future-oriented technology analysis (FTA) has been conducted since 2009 to respond to emerging challenges. Working Group Assembled Literature Review Idea Generation-Scenarios This poster presents a small scale, in-house exercise to construct a strategic technology roadmap in personalized medicine by integrating various FTA methods: scenarios, technology roadmap, essay etc. based on normative approach over a 25-year time horizon. Exploring Needs Functionality-Needs Matrix Key objectives Expert Panel Meeting • focus on exploring needs: no pre-defined technologies to gear, focusing on needs in technology, functionality and policy • narrowed scope: to improve accurancy and directive • to develop a theme-oriented, in-depth scenario analysis throughly before mapping future needs Framework-Scenarios Needs Overview Expert Panel Meeting Mapping Critical Functionality Strategic Technology Roadmap Research Capacity Research Quality Clinic phase Industrial benefits Practical incentives (independent Validation) Priority Area, Budget, people New methods New approach Standardized Research Genome Bio-Database Scale-up research (robust design sampling) Integrating results (assessment, info-sharing) research-clinic integration (protocol、SOP) Clinic trials Assessment of info disclosure Industrial feasibility personalized medicine with solid evidences Industry linkage Industry growth • Genetic testing service • Bio-chip(Chinese) • Medicine Distributors • Personalized(Chinese) • Label… • international collaboration • genetic test and consulting • insurance/payment services • CDSS services Healthcare network • CDSS facility • public education • medical staff training Best practices in research Public health system • genetic diagnosis and treatment • medical insurance • CDSS improvement • public health and medical system Practices in clinic trials Results Three high priority areas are identified through this strategic technology roadmap exercise based on need analysis • Establishment of Bio-Human database of local Chinese population • Improve the data quality of genetic research, experiment and trials in accordance with international standard methodology • Integrate research results and independent validation © European Communities, 2011 Contact Hai-chen Lin (Ms.) Science and Technology Policy Research and Information Center, National Applied Research Laboratories, Taiwan, R.O.C Tel. +886 (0)2 27377875 • Fax +886 (0)2 2737 7838 E-mail: [email protected] 2011 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
