Health For China December update Medical Services In December, 13 children were brought to HSC(Health Services Centre)for intensive care. Because during winter the temperature drops and the weather is very dry, some of the children catch cold and develop respiratory infections. Dr Joseph and nurses were kept busy caring for the sick children. They are running 24hour shift work giving treatment and care. It is quite a challenge for Healthcare as our Human resource is limited. Please remember their hard work Intensive Care Little Philip was very sick when he was admitted to HSC. After 10 days treatment, he recovered well and was able to go back home. A one month old, tiny girl from our childcare centre came to Healthcare with a severe respiratory infection and congenital heart disease. We suspected the child may need a respiratory machine support which we do not have. So we transferred the child to NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) in the Children’s hospital. Intensive Care Xiao Ming (with club foot) was ill too. After just 5 days treatment however, he has totally recovered. Dr Joseph continued with the Club foot treatment procedure by doing the Heel cord tenotomy. Please keep thinking of Xiao Ming and hope that he can one day stand and walk. Professional Training We give special thanks to Ms. Julie who is a nurse trainer from Canada. She visited Healthcare and provided nursing training for our staff. Her professional training has enabled our two new nurses to be able to use the incubator with confidence. We are very glad that we have two Chinese doctors involved as volunteers in our village doctors’ training programme. Dr Meng, who is working in a university hospital, has a great desire to provide medical training. Her training topic is Cerebrovascular Disease. This helps village doctors have a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment principles and protocols. Dr Wang from Tuberculosis Infectious Hospital gave a lecture on Diagnosing Tuberculosis. All the village doctors show tremendous interesting in the training sessions as Dr Wang updates their old medical knowledge and treatment techniques. Thanks With Christmas time coming, local families visited HSC and brought their blessing to our staff and children. We give much thanks to local families who give faithful support to HSC. Nancy Liu gave presents to the children who were receiving intensive care. Cerebral Palsy Programme We really appreciate Jan and her friends who donated the medical equipment for Healthcare. It is a big blessing for children with CP as well as Healthcare. Jiecong has a new chair which enables him to sit stably and allows him to play on the table. Cerebral Palsy Programme Becky, who is a language therapist from overseas, came to help YaoYao, who has no language. She’s happy to come regularly and help the other children as well. Yaoyao is very happy to play with the Laowai (foreigner) aunty Cerebral Palsy Programme Qiqi has a stool for training in the sitting position. After 3 month therapy, he has a made a lot of progress. Qiqi’s parents have decided to believe in Him at this Christmas time. We are joyful for the family as they find the new hope of life. Healthcare thanks you for your faithful support by: “Thinking” about our work Visiting and helping to develop the Rural Health work Encouraging our staff by His words Financially supporting etc. We urgently need: Local nursing staff who have a compassionate heart for children An overseas physical therapist who is a likeminded person, willing to develop ways to approach people in the community and to work together with local staff. Resuscitation models for training (two adult models would be even better) For more information and contact details in your country please visit the internet. www.careforchina.net www.caringforchina.org
