Top 7 Things You Must Know
Before Choosing Your Family’s Orthodontist
by Eric R. Turke, D.D.S.
When Should
My Child Have
an Exam?
Timing is extremely
important, in order to
reduce overall treatment
time and cost.
1. Is the Doctor a Specialist
Orthodontists receive an additional 2-3 years of specialized education, beyond dental school, to learn the
proper way to straighten and align teeth. Orthodontists
practice orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics exclusively. All orthodontists are dentists, but only 6%
of dentists are orthodontists. Look for the seal of the
American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Only
orthodontic specialists can belong to the AAO.
2. When Should A Child Have Their First Orthodontic Evaluation?
Children should be evaluated early (age 7) to determine the best
time to start treatment. If treatment is prescribed for a later time,
the child should be periodically evaluated in a pre-orthodontic
guidance program. These patients should have periodic visits to
check on tooth eruption and jaw alignment.
Most parents are shocked that their first or second-grader has
been referred to the orthodontist. Although the overwhelming
majority of patients this age do not require early treatment,
the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a
screening by the age of 7 in order to rule out possible problems
that can be much harder to correct in later years. If you see
one of the following problems, call Turke Orthodontics to
schedule a screening exam to see if your child can benefit
from early treatment.
3. Do You Treat Adults?
Orthodontics is not just for children and teens! In fact 20% of orthodontic patients in the United
States are adults. Many adults are finding out how a healthy and attractive smile is important to
their health as well as the way they feel about themselves. With all of the recent advancements in
orthodontics, pursuing treatment is easier
than ever!
At Turke Orthodontics, we strive to make each visit to the office
something about which to smile! Be sure to check out our
Facebook page at Turke Orthodontics and our website at www.
turkeorthodontics.com We are confident YOU WILL LOVE THE
WAY WE MAKE YOU SMILE!
4. How Has Technology Changed Braces?
Orthodontics isn’t what is used to be. The metal braces of
today have evolved considerably in recent years and are
more comfortable than ever before. The miniature brackets
and light wire technique work in tandem to effectively
and efficiently move the teeth into their desired position.
Ceramic braces offer a cosmetically pleasing alternative,
while Invisalign® offers the patient a nearly invisible bracefree option. And now Invisalign® has a special treatment
system just for teens!
5. Does the quoted fee include records and retainers?
At Turke Orthodontics there are no hidden charges! You
will understand exactly what your total investment is at
your complimentary examination. A beautiful smile is a
long-term commitment with active treatment, and even
more importantly, effective retention. Not all retainers are
created alike, but rest assured Dr. Turke will customize your
retention protocol to ensure your smile remains perfect!
6. Does your practice offer flexible financing?
At Turke Orthodontics, we offer a number of affordable payment options.
Little-down, no-interest payment plans are available to help those patients
who really want braces, but cannot afford a large down payment. For
your convenience, our office accepts most insurance and will work hard
to help you receive the maximum benefit from your dental insurance.
Orthodontics is a wonderful investment, with life-long returns.
7. Does your practice make me feel special?
At Turke Orthodontics it is my desire to create an environment in which
each individual patient feels welcome, at ease, and special. I take a
conservative approach to treatment and every case is viewed on an
individual, case by case, basis and a treatment plan is developed that
is appropriate and in the best interest of each patient. Using the latest in
technological advancements, my goal as an orthodontic specialist is to
provide you with a beautiful smile, in the most economical manner, and in
the shortest and most reasonable time frame possible!
