Job Description: Pre–Treatment Manager
(Reporting to Operations Manager)

Daily Activities & Required Skills:
Manager’s responsibility : The successful candidate will be part of a core team of department
managers within Hardide Coatings Ltd’s manufacturing staff. Reporting to the Operations
Manager he/she will be responsible for the day-to-day working activities of their department
and the pre-treatment of production components prior to Hardide coating in the CVD coating
chambers. The Manager will be pro-active in ensuring quality product whilst maintaining strict
working procedures and record requirements along with promotion of sound health, safety
and environmental practice.
1. Operation and maintenance of pre-treatment equipment
a. Responsible for the processing of production components and compliance to quality
requirements.
b. Ensure equipment is maintained and operated in compliance with safety and
environmental requirements.
c. Manage and if required perform periodic maintenance procedures on equipment and
chemical solutions.
2. Operation of pre-treatment process
a. Responsible for programming / execution of correct process route for parts
b. Identify and manage process improvement activities
c. Manage and assist if required execution of plating processes, chemical etching,
chemical stripping .
d. Manage and assist if required maintenance of chemical baths within process
specifications.
e. Ensure quality of process meets established standards.
f. Daily handling of acids, caustics, and corrosive fluids.
3. General manufacturing
a. Assist any other department from time to time in supporting tasks .
4. Maintain compliance to all environmental standards and procedures
a. Ensure and manage all HS&E requirements for pre-treatment department.
b. Enforce all rules on chemical handling and restricted/dangerous actions.
c. Maintain safe working practices (training will be provided where applicable) for
chemical emergency response, first aid and chemical spill response.
A formal training plan will be developed in line with company practice, its full content will be
dependant on level of experience / previous training.
Ideal Profile:
Experience in metal electroplating /strike, surface coating of metals or similar chemical based
manufacturing process. Ideally with experience of surface treatment for stainless steel and similar
alloys. Candidates will be able to identify and implement improvement activities within the pretreatment department (efficiency / quality / cost based for example) whilst maintaining adherence to
working procedures. Hardide is a fast paced growing business that is constantly introducing new
products to the process. The Pre-Treatment Manager will support new application development by
identification and implementation of suitable chemical treatments . Adherence to, and enforcement of
chemical handling and safety standards will be driven by the candidate. Degree level training in
chemistry and subsequent professional experience in acid & caustic chemical handling processes is
desirable although suitable previous experience and training in relevant industry will be considered.
