Remarks for safe use in hazardous areas
Function and features
• Use in hazardous areas according to the classification
II 3G (group II, category 3, apparatus for gas atmosphere).
Fulfils the requirements of the standard EN 60079-15: 2005.

Installation /Set-up
The units should only be mounted, connected and put into service by qualified
staff. The qualified staff must have knowledge of protection classes,
regulations and provisions for apparatus in hazardous areas.
Check whether the classification (see "Marking" above and marking on the
unit) is suitable for the application.
Installation remarks / Mounting
• Adhere to the relevant national regulations and provisions as well as the
relevant installation regulations.
• Avoid electrostatic charging on plastic units and cables.
• Avoid electrostatic charging, only clean the unit with a damp cloth.
• To avoid electrostatic charging steps must be taken to ensure the
equalisation of potential of metal parts (plug housing, fixing elements,
protective housing, etc.).
• Protect the unit and the cable efficiently against damage.
• For the connections and the electrical technical data please see the unit
marking or the technical data sheet.
• To avoid soiling, do not remove the connector cover until attaching the
mating connector.
• Protect the unit (plastic parts) from UV light.

Special conditions for safe operation
• The unit (1) must only be installed in conjunction with the supplied
protective housing (2) and the supplied metal plate (3).

• The connectors must be tightened so that they cannot be disconnected
without using a tool. Use ifm sockets with the order number EVC011 or
EVC012.
Secure the connector. Tighten the coupling nut with a tightening torque of
approx. 1.2..1.5 Nm
This tightening torque is ensured as follows:
Hand-fasten the coupling nut (0.5...0.6 Nm). Then turn by another notch
using a screwdriver across the flats 14.
If you do not use ifm connectors, make sure that the nut cannot be
loosened manually.
• Connect the output (M12 socket) with angled M12 plugs, preferably ifm
jumper E10817 (type A) or E70143 (type B) or E10844 (type C).
Make sure that the nut cannot be loosened manually.
• Do not disconnect the connector while live.
• The housings are rated for a low mechanical risk and tested with an impact
energy of 4 joules.
• The sensing face is not designed for mechanical stress. Therefore the unit
must only be operated with target pucks which exclude mechanical stress
on the sensing face.
Maintenance / repair
The unit must not be modified nor can it be repaired. In case of a fault please
contact the manufacturer.
