Water Source Heat Pump
Refrigeration Option
Offering excellent operational efficiency, water source
heat pump systems provide zone-specific control by
de-coupling ventilation from heating/cooling control.
Key to the success of this de-coupled system is a
dedicated outdoor air ventilator. Valent systems are
available with water source heat pump refrigeration
and integrate into the existing water loop, providing
optimal energy efficiency.
BENEFITS
APPLICATIONS
• Higher Energy Efficiency Rating (EER), vs. air-cooled units, reduces operating costs.
• Design flexibility allows units to be applied in many building types.
• Improved match of capacity to actual load
with Digital Scroll™ compressors, improves
efficiency.
• Advanced control system provides reliable
start-up and operation.
Valent water source heat pump units are suitable for a variety of system designs
including boiler-tower and geothermal loops.
They accommodate fluid types including water,
propylene glycol, or ethylene glycol. The Valent
head pressure control strategy makes a wide
range of operating temps acceptable, with the
unit capable of operating from -5°F to 110°F
ambient air temperatures.
FEATURES
Active Head Pressure Control
• Constantly maintains refrigerant pressures
through water valve modulation.
• Reduces fan speeds to allow cold morning
start-up as low as -5°F ambient.
• Increases the dehumidification capability on part load days.
Digital Scroll™ Compressors
• Offer a 10:1 turndown ratio for accurate capacity modulation.
• Consume less energy than a standard scroll with hot gas bypass.
Modulating Hot Gas Reheat
• Allows for tight control over discharge air set points in dehumidification mode.
• Recovers energy otherwise rejected to the condenser water loop.
Valent is a business of Unison® Comfort Technologies.
Systems which require a supplementary outside air source (heat pump designs) and
applications that require high amounts of outdoor air (locker rooms, gymnasiums, pools and kitchens) are well-matched to the
capabilities of this product. Building sites with
needs for energy efficiency over the long-term are particularly well-suited for a water source heat pump system.
The water source heat pump refrigeration option is available in all Valent products including
the VPR, VPRE, VPRX, and VPRP models.

Controls
All Valent packaged rooftop units are designed
around a powerful controls system. An integrated,
factory-mounted controller provides building
professionals with single-source responsibility for HVAC equipment and controls.
Managing high amounts of outside air in an
energy-efficient manner while maintaining tight control of space conditions requires a highly capable control system. The powerful Valent controller helps provide comfortable and energy-efficient building environments. Sophisticated refrigeration control sequences
reduce energy consumption while meeting
demands for high outdoor air percentages.
Valent controls support open systems
communication to building automation systems
(BAS) through either the BACnet® or LonTalk®
protocol standards. For buildings without a front-end BAS, a Web interface provides
monitoring and control of the unit via the building LAN and a Web browser. A local LCD
display on the unit controller provides operating
staff with local visibility to system data.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The EPA estimates if every U.S. school converted to
geothermal heat pumps it would generate energy
savings equivalent to:
• Reducing oil imports by 61 million barrels annually
• Converting four million cars to zero emission vehicles
• Planting eight million acres of trees
TESTING
All Valent products undergo a 1.5 hour run test
prior to shipment to ensure product quality. Each
of the major onboard systems are verified during
the test, including:
• refrigeration systems
• airflow & fans
• heating systems
• controls
• electrical systems
THE VALENT ADVANTAGE
Valent Air Management Systems is a manufacturer of high-outdoor-air packaged rooftop units designed to address the needs of building owners, specifying engineers, and installing contractors. Valent units are built on a foundation of four key attributes: premium quality construction, comprehensive packaging,
a thorough run-testing program, and powerful and flexible controls packages.
