Dr John Collins & Dr Kristen Thompson 2800 W Broadway Ave Sulphur, OK 73086 580-622-3133 www.arbucklevetclinic.com [email protected] Bloodwork Consent and Information Prior to Surgery/Anesthesia Please read carefully. Our greatest concern is the well-being of your pet. Before anesthetizing an animal, we recommend that lab work be conducted prior the procedure. This helps the surgeon make the best choice in anesthesia and treatment for your pet’s needs. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork provides valuable, insightful knowledge that is specific to your pet. All conditions and diseases are causes for concern when anesthetizing a pet. Bloodwork provides indicators regarding the following conditions and/or diseases: Dehydration Kidney or Liver Disease Anemia Low platelet counts, (needed to control bleeding) Infection Diabetes, Cushing’s Disease, Thyroid Disease Heartworms, Tick Disease, Leukemia, FIV Electrolytes Clients may elect to decline the highly recommended lab work at this time. However, the surgeon and veterinarian technician will not have all of the information needed to fully assess the pet’s health. Without the pre-anesthetic bloodwork, we have to assume that the animal is healthy for the procedure, and your pet may have conditions only detectable through bloodwork. We understand that surgery and anesthesia can be frightening for both the pet and owner, and this is our attempt to make the surgery appointment as comfortable as possible.
