Product overview
Wound Care
Dressings
Dressings with Safetac provide a proven solution to
minimise the risks of pain to the patient and trauma to
the wound during dressing changes1.
Other products include Exufiber, Mepore, Mepore
Film, Mepore Film & Pad, Mextra Superabsorbent
and Steripod.
Our range of products include: Mepitel, Mepilex,
Mepilex Border, Mepilex Ag, Mepilex XT, Mepilex
Heel and Mepiseal.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)
Avance is the only NPWT system purpose designed
to minimise unnecessary patient pain and stress2.
Fixations with Safetac prevent skin stripping at
dressing changes3,4 and the maceration that can
delay healing by causing damage to the periwound
area 5,6.They may even prevent blistering7. Fixation
film with Safetac is easy to work with, apply and
can be repositioned during application to achieve
best fit and seal. This helps minimise unnecessary
contact with the patient’s sensitive wound site, and
can help minimise their anxiety.
Avance is also light, easy to understand and
operate and very quiet – design that contributes to
a less stressful NPWT experience day-to-day.
Dermatology
Emollient therapy
The Epaderm range provides all of the
moisturising and protective benefits of paraffinbased emollients and can be used for the
treatment of eczema, psoriasis and other dry
skin conditions.
Complete emollient therapy is available in/with
just 2 products:
Epaderm Ointment, developed by Dermatologists
at the RVI, is a 3-in-1 emollient, bath additive
and skin cleanser.
Epaderm Cream is an award winning 2-in-1
emollient and skin cleanser, formulated with
clinically proven ingredients that moisturise and
soften the skin.
Dressing retention & wet or dry wrapping
Tubifast Bandages and Garments with 2-Way
Stretch technology are used for dressing
retention and, in conjunction with emollients, for
wet or dry wrapping to help treat atopic eczema.
Ready-made Tubifast Garments are easy to
apply, and their two-way stretch construction
ensures complete freedom of movement and so
aids concordance.
Tubifast Bandages can be used for dressing
retention and as undercast stockinettes. Used
with Epaderm Ointment, both Tubifast Bandages
and Tubifast Garments are ideal product
combinations for wet or dry wrapping.

Safetac®
Safetac® hurts less
Safetac is a propietary adhesive technology that minimises pain and
wound trauma, and decreases patient stress. Safetac technology is
available exclusively in Mölnlycke Health Care dressings, including
Mepitel One, Mepilex wound care dressings and other selected
Mölnlycke Health Care dressings.
Safetac hurts less because it:
1) adheres gently to dry intact skin, but not to moist wound surfaces1
2) conforms to the skin’s uneven surface thereby covering a larger
surface area which spreads peel forces on removal to prevent skin
stripping2, 3
3) seals around wound margins, ensuring exudate does not spread
to the s urrounding skin thereby minimising maceration4.

The science of Safetac®
Safetac conforms to the skin’s uneven surface, while
other adhesives adhere only to the top of the skin’s
surface.
Tissue Trauma
Skin Stripping
Sealing
Adherence
Dressings with
Traditional Adhesives
Safetac minimises pain at removal, seals the
wound margins effectively and helps prevent blister
formation.
Dressings with
Safetac
Traditional adhesives only adhere to
the top of skin pores, and must stick
harder to stay in place.
Safetac soft silicone adhesive conforms
to the skin’s pores, sealing the wound.
Exudate is able to travel through
the dips and valleys between pores,
spreading outward and increasing
the risk for maceration.
Exudate has nowhere to go, stopping
the spread and helping to prevent
maceration.
Electron microscope of acrylate
adhesive after dressing removal
Electron microscope picture of a
dressing with Safetac after removal.
Safetac is in contact with much more
skin area, spreading peel forces to
avoid skin being stripped at dressing
removal2, 5.
Because of the force needed to stick
to the tops of pores and the smaller
contact area, sheer forces can strip
skin at removal.
With less skin contact, the adhesive is
at risk of slight moves and can lead to
the friction that forms blisters.
More skin contact also eliminates
the risk for friction from slighter
movement, helping to prevent
blistering9.

The shape of the borders have been designed to
adapt to the body’s contours and to distribute forces
along the borders, in order to minimise rolling
and increase both conformability and ability to stay
in place. The perforated ‘flex cut’ design in the
absorbent pad provides greater extensibility and
flexibility 1.

Hydrophilic wound contact layer
A superabsorbent dressing with
a fluid-repellent backing
Mextra Superabsorbent’s unique 4 layer
construction works in a precise sequence to
deliver optimal exudate management:
1. Hydrophilic wound contact layer transmits fluid
upwards.
2. Distribution layer allows rapid fluid uptake
and spreads exudate evenly into the absorbent
layer.
3. Absorbent layer maintains integrity upon
exudate absorption and minimises the risk of
maceration and leakage.
• Distribution layer that directs exudate evenly
upwards into the absorbent layer
• Absorbent layer comprises optimal amounts
of fibres and superabsorbent particles
4. Fluid repellent backing layer minimises fluid
strike-through and allows moisture vapour
transmission.

Avance® NPWT with Safetac®
Avance is a unique NPWT system that helps prevent
unnecessary pain to the patient and trauma to the
wound. Avance Film with Safetac technology helps
protect the periwound area against maceration,
prevents skin stripping at dressing changes and help
prevent the formation of painful blisters.
The Avance pump is lightweight and comes with
a unique docking station, giving patients greater
mobility. It can be used with a choice of dressing
kits, depending on the wound and a patient’s needs,
and numerous accessories to help with more
complicated dressings.
Avance with Dynamic Exudate
Management
NPWT that hurts less from acute
care to home care
The Avance unique Dynamic Exudate Management is
an intelligent pump software which monitors wound
exudate levels. Depending on the level of exudate, the
software adjusts its flushing cycles, from between 4
times per minute to once every 5 minutes, in order to
transport the exudate towards the canister, reducing
the risk of blockage or maceration.
With Avance, patients use the same NPWT system
at home as they did in hospital. Avance is simple to
learn and operate for both patients and care givers,
helping speed up the discharge process. Minimising
pain and achieving an optimal seal promotes better
patient compliance, an important consideration in
successful healing.

Sealant for NPWT with Safetac®
Plunger
Achieving and maintaining a seal is essential
for effective delivery of NPWT: a poor seal can
increase the risk of exudate spreading to the
surrounding periwound area which may lead
to maceration. Dressing leaks can also lead
to repeat dressing changes which can be time
consuming and costly.
Mepiseal Applicator
Mepiseal is quick and easy to apply allowing you
to secure any NPWT dressing with confidence
– forming a seal that prevents exudate spread
and promotes effective negative pressure wound
therapy for as long as the dressing is in place.

The skin protective film dressing with
Safetac®
Mepitel Film provides a transparent covering
to protect the skin or wound from microbial
contamination, fluid strike through and other
external contamination; while conforming
to surface irregularities and body contours.
Mepitel® Film maintains a moist environment and
is vapour permeable, allowing excess moisture
to pass away from the skin. The Safetac layer
provides instant tack adhesion that minimises the
requirement of extra pressure to fixate well. The
Safetac layer also ensures atraumatic dressing
changes.
Unique Safetac® layer:
• Reduces pain and trauma before,
during and after dressing change1,2,3,5,6
• Does not adhere to the moist wound
bed but to dry skin only2
• Seals the wound margins and reduces
risk of maceration3,4
Mepitel Film can also be used as a protective cover for open
surgical wounds e.g abdomen, fixate primary dressing as a
secondary dressing and be used in combination with gels and
ointments. Fixation tapes and devices can be fixated on top
of the Mepitel Film product, Mepitel Film is then used as a
protective landing zone for the fixation tape.

Absorbent alginate dressing
Melgisorb Plus absorbs large amounts of wound exudate. When absorbing, the
alginate fibres form a soft moist gel, giving a moist environment conducive to
wound healing. The gel can easily be removed by irrigating with 0.9 % saline*.
Absorbent sodium chloride impregnated dressing
Mesalt effectively stimulates the cleansing of wounds in the inflammatory phase
by absorbing exudate, bacteria and necrotic material from the wound, thereby
facilitating the natural wound healing process.
Foam dressings
Lyofoam® Max
Lyofoam Max is a highly absorbent non-adhesive dressing. It consists of
polyurethane foam and a waterproof backing film with high permeability to allow
for effective exudate management of moderate to highly exuding wounds*. Lyofoam
Max replaces both Lyofoam and Lyofoam Extra.
Lyofoam® Max T
Lyofoam Max T is a highly absorbent non-adhesive dressing for use around
tracheostomy tubes. It consists of polyurethane foam and a waterproof backing film
with high permeability to allow effective healing. Lyofoam Max T is available in 9 x
9cm size.
