Certificate of competence in administering intravenous injections Course code: N/A Level: 6 Semester: A/B/C Credit: 10 Who should attend the course? Where is the course taught and by whom? The course The course is primarily designed for diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers who administer intravenous contrast agents as part of their work. Other suitably qualified health care practitioners are also eligible. is facilitated by Martin Vosper and will involve both University and external lecturers. It normally takes place at the College Lane Campus in Hatfield. To be eligible for the course the participant must be working in an environment where they will be undertaking intravenous injections of contrast agents. It is essential that they are assigned a named supervisor who will be responsible for their clinical training. Cost This two day course is approved by the College of Radiographers. Course aims The aim of this course is to help you develop the necessary clinical and evaluative skills for the competent performance of intravenous administration of contrast agents. £340 for Society of Radiographers members. £350 for non-members Contract funding for NHS staff The University is contracted by the NHS to provide postregistration education/CPD and training for its health professionals. If you are an NHS employee contact the senior manager responsible for post-registration education/CPD in your Trust to check if the course you wish to attend can be supported by the Trust's contract with our University. When does this course run? This is a 2-day course that runs on: Course content There is a theoretical and practical component of the course. The theoretical component will be via sessions within the university environment that are undertaken via a variety of mediums to include lectures, group work and practical sessions. Topics covered include: o Anatomy and physiology o Medico-legal issues o Contrast agents and their physiological effects o Emergency situations and “at risk” groups o Injection Procedure The practical component will be undertaken in the participants working environment. They will be assigned a named supervisor who will be responsible for their clinical training. Assessment Assessment involves satisfactory completion of an in course test prior to clinical work and completion of a clinical portfolio. Successful participants who are state registered with a regulatory body such as the HCPC or NMC will normally be eligible for The College of Radiographers Certificate in Administering Intravenous Injections. Other successful participants may receive a University certificate. The course also attracts 10 credits at Level 6. o o 15-16 March 2016 or 26-27 April 2016 15-16 June 2016 19-20 July 2016 Bespoke one-day IV courses If your department would like 10 or more (max 20) staff to enrol on the course we may be able to offer a one-day intense study day at your own place of work. The one day courses are on Saturdays only. Please note that the one day course permits certification but not Level 6 credits for successful completers.
