Board Eligible/Board Certified Family Practice Physician
Location:
Clinical Setting at the Peter Christensen Health Center in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin with
inpatient duties at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wisconsin.
Summary:
The Family Practice Physician is prepared to deliver primary health care services to clients, such
as individuals, families, and groups, emphasizing the promotion of health, and the prevention of
disease. This professional will collaborate and coordinate with nurse practitioners, family
practice physicians, and other health professionals to provide a broad range of primary health
care to specified populations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1.
Provide direct primary health care services to Lac du Flambeau tribal members, their
families, and specific Lac du Flambeau community-based populations, emphasizing health
promotion and disease prevention, including the management of acute, and stable, chronic
diseases.
2.
Provide occupational health care services to Lac du Flambeau tribal employees, as well as
community-based employees.
3.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge and skills in current primary health care practice.
4.
Provide services in accordance with written clinic policies.
5.
Provide case management for clients and families, and initiates referrals to other health
care providers as needed.
6.
Provide inpatient care to PCHC patients in the hospital setting at Howard Young Medical
Center.
7.
Provide adequate call coverage in addition to clinic hours, based on a 1-4 call rotation.
Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
• Collaborates with clients and families to identify learning needs and readiness to learn.
• Teach clients and families about normal growth and development stages, which include
health promotion practices throughout life span.

Counsels clients and families on healthy lifestyle issues.
Develops and modifies clients and family educational materials and programs as
necessary.
Attends continuing education seminars and conferences to maintain professional
certifications.
May present at seminars, conferences, or facilitate groups on issues related to primary
health care, and promotion of health lifestyles.
Supervisory Skills:
• Collaborates with other team members in day-to-day operational decision making.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
• Licensed in the State of Wisconsin
• Board certified, or board eligible with certification plan;
• ACLS certification
• PALS certification
• NRP certified/eligible
• DEA License
Clinical Skill:
• Performs comprehensive health assessments for all age groups, such as well child care,
pre-employment physicals
• WIAA sports physicals, and annual health assessments that include health surveillance
for men and women
• Assesses and manages care for acute, minor, and episodic illnesses and injuries
• Provides assessment, evaluation, and management of clients with chronic, stable illnesses
• Collaborates with client and family to determine physiologic, emotional, and
environmental needs and priorities
• Provides case management services to assist clients and families with arrangements for,
or refers patients to, needed services that cannot be provided at the Peter Christensen
Health Center
• Provides services which may include the ordering of appropriate diagnostic and
laboratory test, the prescription of pharmacological agents, and other nonpharmacological treatment modalities
Other Skills and Abilities:
• Participates in the development, execution, and periodic review of the written policies
governing the services that the Peter Christensen Health Center furnishes.
• Assures that adequate patient health records are maintained and transferred, as required,
when patients are referred. Participates in the periodic review of the patient’s health
records.
