We are currently looking for a full-time, permanent Data Analyst to work in our Lantz, NS Head Office,
and will be reporting directly to SGL’s Corporate Controller. This position will be responsible for working
with the Shaw Group accounting team and IT Department to provide solutions that will effectively
generate information and data to provide to our divisions help to gain insights and make strategic
decisions for their businesses. This position will be responsible for creating and executing the solutions
using their technical knowledge. They will be expected to work towards continuous improvement,
increase efficiencies and implement new systems or procedures in order to accomplish this. The right
candidate will work with the Sales staff to identify areas of opportunity to drive additional sales. The
Data Analyst will have access to confidential information and will need to have high integrity and
understand the importance of confidentiality and protection of information.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be responsible for conducting analysis and reporting in various aspects of our business
including retail centers, systems and processes for accounting, sales, customer service, production and
transportation etc. This includes requirements analysis and design, analysis and reporting capabilities,
and continuously monitoring operations and sales plans to identify improvements.












Operate database management systems to analyze data and perform data mining analysis
Interpret data, analyze results and provide ongoing reports
Develop and implement data collection systems
Collect and document user requirements
Design and develop database architecture for information systems projects
Design, construct, modify, integrate, implement and test data models an database management
systems
Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
Filter and “clean” data, and review computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators
Conduct research and provide advice regarding the selection, application and implementation of
database management tools
Work closely with management to prioritize business and information needs
Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
 Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and
segmentation techniques
 Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages, databases (SQL), programming (XML,
Javascript, Visual Basic)





Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing large datasets
(Excel, SSRS, etc.)
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant
amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Management
or Statistics
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Salary Range for this position is $40,000 to 45,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
