NEW Urinalysis (UA) Collection Kit—for Outreach Clients Coming Soon 
IUHPL is adding BD Vacutainer ®Plus UA Preservative Tubes to
the Urine Complete collection kit for our Outreach Clients.

The UA Preservative Tube is designed to give more time to test and
process urinalysis samples. With its unique formulation samples
can be preserved for up to 72 hours without refrigeration.

This allows you to maintain sample integrity and helps minimize pre
-analytical errors and unnecessary cultures due to bacterial contamination or over growth.

BD Vacutainer ®Plus UA Preservative Tube for Urinalysis Testing ONLY. All other urine tests, including cultures, will be
rejected if sent in this container.

The new collection kits will be transitioned in and replace the old
collection kits (with the yellow top tube). New stock should be
available for distribution in April 2014.

Insert grey-stoppered tube for Urine Culture (CX) into opening in blue cap to fill tube
Remove grey-stoppered tube
Insert red/yellow tiger or plain yellow stoppered tube into opening in the blue cap to
fill tube (the tiger stoppered tube preserves urine for up to 72 hrs at room temp but it
can ONLY be used for Urinalysis (UA) testing)
Replace yellow label over urine cup opening
Label both collection tubes with correct patient information and tests ordered
Place both tubes in specimen bag with requisitions
DISCARD urine collection cup—NEVER use for transporting urine to the lab

Universal Viral Transport Media (UTM) Use for:
Viruses
Bordetella Pertussis PCR
Chlamydia Cultures
Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma PCR
*Please tighten lid to prevent leakage.**Store media RT
For Virus CX on blood, use Green Na Heparin tube;
for Virus CX on urine, use an empty sterile container with no transport media. DO NOT use Aptima
Collection Kits.

For optimal results inoculate
plate with sample. Place plate in
the specimen bag. Place vial
inside the bag and close bag.
Squeeze vial until it pops, releasing CO2 inside of bag and
send to the laboratory.
