The Laboratory of Platelet and Leukocyte Biology, Level 6 Burnet Building, Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct, Commercial Rd, Prahran, Victoria 3181. Tel: (03) 9903 0122 March 2006 WOULD YOU LIKE TO GIVE BLOOD FOR CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH ? Project Title: Investigation of factors that regulate blood clotting. We are undertaking a research project studying the processes involved in the formation of blood clots. While blood clots normally form to prevent excessive bleeding following an injury, the same processes are involved in the formation of harmful clots that may block blood vessels, causing heart attacks or strokes. A clearer understanding of clots form will not only increase our knowledge of blood clot formation in healthy individuals and individuals with cardiovascular disease, but may potentially lead to new preventative and therapeutic drugs for heart attacks and strokes. Blood donors must be aged 18 – 60 years, and not currently taking anti-clotting or anti-inflammatory medication. These include non-prescription drugs such as Aspirin, Dispirin, ibuprofen (Nurofen). We accept some individuals unable to give blood at the Red Cross Blood Bank (eg. People who have previously resided in the United Kingdom). Conditions apply. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants will receive $10 per donation for their travel and parking costs. Blood will be collected at The Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (Level 6, Burnet Building, AMREP) between 8:00 – 10:00 am. Blood volumes required can range from 150 – 400 mls. For more information, please contact: Australian Centre for Blood Diseases on 9903 0122 Akiko Ono (03 9903 0148) OR Mark Frazzetto (03 9903 0149) between 9am – 6pm
