Fronius battery charging systems ideal for batteries with AGM and EFB technology
Active Inverter Technology for a uniform charge
Wels, Austria. Automobile manufacturers are currently focused on developing fuel-efficient technology.
Alongside the discussion regarding various alternative energy solutions, optimization of modern
vehicles is also becoming increasingly important. One such example is the use of start-stop technology.
This technology, which uses Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries and Enhanced Flooded Batteries
(EFB), is designed to reduce urban fuel consumption by up to 20%. These premium, high performance
modern batteries require equally advanced charging systems that ensure a long battery service life,
such as the powerful Acctiva Professional 35A and the Acctiva Professional Flash battery charging
systems from Fronius.
As conventional lead batteries cannot cope with the frequent vehicle restarts that are a feature of start-stop
technology, only AGM batteries or the slightly cheaper EFB variants can be used. Both systems work reliably
under these particular conditions and ensure cycle stability. A special fibre mat absorbs the electrolyte in AGM
batteries and the active material in EFB batteries. While EFB solutions were developed for simple start-stop
functions, the AGM battery also supports energy-saving functions in the vehicle.
To ensure optimum capability of the AGM batteries, only voltage-regulated charging devices (14.4 V) with the
IU charging characteristic should be used. Overcharging, i.e. voltages over 14.4 V result in a shorter service life
and may invalidate the warranty. All battery charging systems in the Fronius Acctiva range can be used to
charge Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries and Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB). If required, the voltage
on the Acctiva Professional 35A and the Acctiva Professional Flash can be set on the display to match the
manufacturer's specifications.
Individual display settings to match manufacturer's specifications
Harald Scherleitner, head of the Battery Charging Systems division, is keen to point out the other advantages of
the Acctiva Professional 35A and Acctiva Professional Flash battery charging systems: the direct current
maintains the battery temperature at a constant minimum level. The AGM batteries have their own refresh
characteristic. The characteristics react to the battery status, i.e. they detect whether a battery is full, sulphated
or empty. The Acctiva Professional 35A also immediately detects any incorrect rated voltage settings (6 V, 12 V
or 24 V). The cell short circuit detection device also provides appropriate user protection during charging. A
temperature sensor is also available if required. The optional USB adapter makes the device a completely
future-proof addition to any workshop, while the "snap-in" wall bracket gives it a permanent storage location.
Fronius devices with Active Inverter Technology charge smoothly and gently with regulated characteristics.
Overcharging is not possible. Acctiva chargers manufactured by this Austrian family business are suitable for all
battery technologies currently on the market, including sensitive AGM and EFB batteries.
Acctiva Professional 35A
The intelligent Acctiva Professional 35A battery charging system overcomes every obstacle, whether in car or
commercial vehicle workshops or construction and agricultural machinery. Not just because the charger
guarantees a constant voltage during fully automatic charging, diagnosis and flash operations. With an
animated user guidance display, operation has never been so easy. The professional Fronius device has also
been enhanced with some new display languages.

Acctiva Professional Flash
The Flash is a 70 A electronically safe battery charger with a rapid-charge function. It supplies the vehicle with
current even during diagnosis and re-programming of the vehicle's software. The integrated USB port ensures
that the charger is completely future-proof, thus permitting easy loading of software updates.
The Austrian company has been developing Active Inverter Technology for 20 years. "Our Active Inverter
Technology offers intelligent, digitally controlled charging, is 100% electronically safe, very efficient, has a
positive effect on the battery and works in record time", enthuses Harald Scherleitner.
Special features of this intelligent charging technology include superb levels of electronic safety, constant power
throughout the entire charging process, compact construction and the highest safety standards. There are no
dangerous voltage peaks like the ones associated with 50 Hz chargers. Even the current wave shape of Active
Inverter Technology is impressive compared with 50 Hz technology: with 50 Hz transformer technology, a high
current is generated at the start of the charging process, which then drops rapidly. With Active Inverter
Technology, the current remains constant until the battery reaches 80% of its capacity. This technology
facilitates a controlled and safe charging process, a long battery service life and a compact construction. This is
in stark contrast to the 50 Hz technology still employed by some manufacturers, which, in addition to being
extremely heavy and posing a risk of overcharging, is limited in its application and has no safety functions.
Voltages on the Acctiva Professional 35A and Acctiva Professional Flash can be set on the display to match the
manufacturer's specifications, whereas the other Acctiva devices work with the standard 14.4 V characteristic.
In addition to Acctiva Professional 35A and Flash, the Acctiva product family includes Acctiva Easy,
Multicharger, Seller and Standard.
High-quality products
Fronius production processes not only employ modern technology, they also conform to the latest standards.
Modern production facilities in Austria work to an ISO-certified production process using only quality
components. All battery chargers are tested to determine their average service life, i.e. their mean time between
failures (MTBF). The production of the certified battery chargers has a real net output ratio of 80 to 85%.
These values are the result of the continuous development carried out by Fronius. Fronius battery chargers
have been specifically designed for professional use. Success does not come cheaply: 392 employees work in
research and development alone. With 737 active patents, Fronius is a global technology leader. Numerous
manufacturer approvals prove that the investment is paying off. From its base in Wels, Fronius is confident that
it is well equipped to meet any future battery charging system challenges.
