MEDIC AL RESEARCH FELLOWS PROGRAM HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE s a medical, dental, or veterinary student, you are in a unique position to further biomedical science research and translate new basic science knowledge into the treatment of disease. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) offers a one-year fellowship program that will provide you with the opportunity to develop the research skills you will need to engage in this exciting career that bridges research and medicine. IMMERSE YOURSELF IN A YEAR OF FULL-TIME RESEARCH AT ANY ACADEMIC INSTITUTION IN THE U.S. OR AT HHMI’S JANELIA RESEARCH CAMPUS (ABOVE), A WORLD-CLASS BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CENTER NEAR WASHINGTON, D.C. INTERACT WITH HHMI INVESTIGATORS at a science meeting at HHMI’s headquarters or the Janelia Research Campus and learn about their latest findings. of $32,000; a fellow’s allowance of $5,500 for health, dental, and vision insurance, and educationrelated expenses; and a research allowance of $5,500 for travel to regional events, HHMI science meetings and national scientific conferences, and for some research-related costs.
