Gross, Ph.D. Vice President of Academic Affairs Michelle Pyfferoen (Interim) EMPLOYEE’S SIGNATURE ( this position description accurately reflects my current job) DATE From: SUPERVISOR SIGNATURE (this position description reflects the employee’s current job) To: DATE POSITION PURPOSE Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, this position is responsible for the following academic areas of operation: Auto Mechanics, Building Utilities Mechanic, Carpentry, Computer Aided Drafting, Equine Science, Horticulture Technology, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice and Veterinary Technology. This Dean provides both day-to-day management of the issues associated with these academic areas, as well as leadership, including strategic planning, assistance with the application of RCTC’s Integrated Planning Process, and continuous quality improvement. In addition, this Dean provides leadership and management in several significant areas associated with Business and Workforce Education: Directing the efforts of the Business and Workforce Education Manager (direct report), including oversight of: Product and service development and innovation Strategic leadership and deployment of effective marketing efforts Management and development of customer relationships on a regional and national level Applying technology (e.g. online delivery) to training and employee development Maintaining and applying current knowledge of regional workforce needs Representing the college to external constituencies REPORTABILITY Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs Supervises: Adjunct, part- and full-time faculty in the above areas; Business and Workforce Education manager; support staff and student workers. No. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS AND PERFORMANCE INDICATIORS 1 Provide collaborative management of all the academic areas identified. A. Hire, supervise, evaluate and engage in ongoing performance management of faculty and academic affairs staff. B. Work successfully with faculty and staff in accord with the current union agreements. C. Provide open engagement with other sectors of the College. D. Provide candid advice to the VP of Academic Affairs at all times. E. Vigilantly engage with colleagues/leaders in MnSCU to identify best practices. Direct and assist the Business and Workforce Education Manager (direct report), including: A. Supervise, evaluate, hire and engage in ongoing performance management of the Business and Workforce Education Manager. B. Product and service development and innovation C. Strategic leadership and deployment of effective marketing efforts D. Management and development of customer relationships on a regional and national level E. Applying technology to training and employee development F. Maintaining and applying current knowledge of regional workforce needs G. Representing the college to external constituencies. Provide leadership, including new directions and connection of all identified areas of responsibility to college-wide planning and strategic goal setting. A. Encourage development of new programs/new directions within the College. B. Engage internal and external stakeholders in the development of new and evaluation of current programs and courses. C. Participate fully in the Integrated Planning Process (IPP) at the College. D. Contribute to the ongoing refinement of the Academic Affairs strategic directions. E. Provide key direction for faculty and others in the College to advance the Assessment of Student Learning, an essential part of our HLC accreditation. F. Nurture diversity and inclusiveness at all times and in all sectors of the College. Represent the College at regular and occasional community events, as directed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and/or the President of the College. 11/22/12 A 10 A Position Description C EMPLOYEE’S NAME POSTION CONTROL NUMBER SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Qualifications: Earned master’s degree in recognized field appropriate to the responsibilities of the position. Three years (full-time or equivalent) experience at the college level in teaching or training. Demonstrated leadership capability through documented results. (e.g. change efforts, new program development, quality improvement, partnership development, etc.) Three years (full-time or equivalent) of supervisory experience Demonstrated ability to organize time and diverse tasks, to communicate clearly, effectively conduct meetings and resolve conflicts. Preferred: • • • • • • Experience in the Minnesota State College and University (MnSCU) system within the past 5 years Experience in a faculty union environment Administrative experience at dean or director level Previous involvement within workforce development and/or training Previous involvement with AQIP and/or other quality improvement and accreditation efforts Grant writing and administration experience 11/22/12
