Position Title: FTE: Reports to: Pay Range: Public Health Educator 1 Health Promotion Manager $19.00 to $25.52 per hour plus benefits Job Summary The Public Health Educator works closely with other members of the Health Promotion Team to develop and implement cohesive and integrated community wide environmental chronic disease prevention strategies. Experience/Competencies Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience in community/public health. Demonstrated experience in community-based initiatives, alliance building (collaboration), and interventions leading to policy, systems or environmental changes that promote healthy living Understanding principles of health communication (including social marketing), determinants of community health, environmental strategies and building local capacity Must possess ability to plan, coordinate and manage with strong organizational skills; cultivate and manage key relations/stakeholders, as well as lead and facilitate group process; effectively work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team Build logical approaches to address problems or opportunities; manages the situation at hand by drawing on own knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary; approaches this analysis with an unbiased, impartial view Use social media to further team objectives Ability to work independently and to be self-directed within the scope of a project Ability to work with related state and/or federal agencies and to ensure project requirements are successfully attained Related skills of good time management, managing deadlines, and good team relationships are essential Excellent written/verbal communication skills Excellent command of Microsoft Office products Duties: Works closely with Health Promotion Team, project partners, and subcommittees to develop and implement cohesive, integrated, and culturally appropriate community-wide prevention strategies Provides staff support to subcommittees including facilitating meetings, scheduling meetings, recording and distributing meeting minutes, preparing correspondence, and other duties required for the team(s) to function efficiently Identifies and engages partners throughout the local service area including existing coalitions; civic, community, and religious organizations; communitybased health or social service providers; Cooperative Extension; physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers; law enforcement; local government; parents; schools; youth services organizations; and local media Develops and implements a communication protocol that keeps all partners informed of project activities Acts as a liaison with the Maine CDC, Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services and other partners as necessary Works in conjunction with the Health Promotion Team and project partners to conduct a needs, resources, and readiness assessment utilizing existing county and local-level assessments Develops, writes and edits various print communications materials. Develops and maintains effective methods for distributing communication materials and information Gathers and utilizes assessment data to plan, implement, and evaluate program goals/objectives Complies with reporting and evaluation requirements Ensures that relevant program objectives are met via workplan activities Pay range is $19.00 to $25.52 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
