Who is this course for? Doctors & nurses from primary care, family planning, district nurses, health advisers etc. Aim of this Course To equip the participants with the basic knowledge, skills, attitudes & confidence for the effective discussion of HIV & HIV testing in primary care, &, where appropriate; to manage the primary care aspects of their health. Learning Objectives - by the end of the course you should: Knowledge Skills Have basic knowledge of epidemiology of HIV Understand the consequences of late diagnosis Be aware of important drugs – drug interactions in the HIV infected patient Be aware of the issues relating to confidentiality, partner notification Basic knowledge of symptoms & presentations of HIV illness Understand principles of when & how to refer on Be aware of local services PTO for programme Feel competent & capable taking a sexual history & raising the subject of HIV testing Be able to make a risk assessment of patients wanting an HIV test Be able to advise patients how to reduce their risk of HIV infection Be able to optimise care pathways for newly diagnosed & chronic HIV infection Feel competent to manage co-morbidity for those patients who are HIV positive or feel comfortable in getting help & support in their management Attitudes Have an appreciation of the lifestyle & circumstances of others & how this may reflect on their presentation & impact on their management Develop an appreciation & acceptance of the range of human sexuality, lifestyles, cultures & the impact these have on the transmission/presentation of HIV & how these impact on prevention counselling Have an understanding of how one’s personal beliefs & culture can affect consultations How to book a place Please return the tear off slip below along with a cheque for £200.00 made payable to “BSUH CHARITABLE FUND 80072” Cost includes course manual, coffee, tea & lunch for 2 days.
