Enhancing crop performance and nutrition through healthy vegetables are among the company’s key commitments, underlined by long-term investments into innovation in support of sustainable vegetable production. The vegetable seed business of Bayer with more than 2,100 employees in 45 countries operates under the brand Nunhems. The Head office, global support functions and the main research center are located in Nunhem in the Netherlands. The second research center is located in the US. In addition Vegetable Seeds operates 26 breeding stations around the world. With over 1,200 seed varieties in about 24 vegetable crops, Nunhems is a world-renowned brand in the hybrid seed industry. Its breeding programs are able to deliver innovative products which in turn help improve our customers’ business growth and profitability. Sales in 2015 amounted to 399 million Euro, an increase of 9 percent compared to 2014. This makes the vegetable seed business the biggest part of the seeds business of Bayer (followed by oilseeds with 362 million Euro and cotton with 233 million Euro). Integrated breeding, supported by modern marker-assisted breeding technologies, together with a crop specialized market approach and close collaboration with customers lead to innovative seed varieties that address growers’ needs and benefit partners along the value chain, all the way to the end consumer. Innovations in seed varieties include Intense™ tomatoes, Galkia™ melons with enhanced flavor or high-yielding cucumbers plants.
