Information and support on
inherited heart conditions
An inherited heart condition is a type of heart condition
that can run in families. It can affect one or several members
of the same family.
The BHF Genetic Information Service (GIS) helps people
who have been diagnosed with or who have lost a loved
one because of an inherited heart condition. The service
supports patients and their families by helping them
access a specialist clinic for assessment.
To support this service we have worked with Cardiac Risk
in the Young (CRY), the Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA)
and HEART UK – The Cholesterol Charity to produce the
booklets for patients and their families about different
inherited heart conditions. Our resources explain the
inherited heart condition, how it might be passed on
through families and provides information on changes
that a patient may need to make to their everyday life.
