ABOUT BUCS Big Wednesday 2016
BUCS Nationals is our individual championship events for 10 sports and will see 6000 students compete
across 3 days. The 2016 event will take place in Sheffield on the 19th – 21st February.
Sports include: indoor athletics, badminton, long course swimming, boxing, karate, fencing, trampolining,
judo, climbing and rifle.
POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of the Media and Marketing Assistant is to assist the BUCS marketing team in producing
digital content to profile the event to BUCS’s stakeholders – including students, universities and
regional/national media.
Volunteering at the BUCS Nationals is the perfect opportunity to develop your marketing and social media
skills in an exciting, fast paced, sporting event environment.
REPORTING / WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

BUCS Staff including the BUCS Marketing & Communications Manager, BUCS Digital Marketing
Coordinator

Other media and marketing volunteers

Contracted videographers and photographers

BUCS event staff


Assist the BUCS marketing staff to collate and produce content for BUCS
channels including: website, e-newsletters, social media platforms
(Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)
Content to include: interviewing competitors to write feature articles and
compiling updates for social media on competition progress and results
Assist videographers and photographers to shoot content and arrange
interviews with competitors
Assist the BUCS marketing staff to manage sponsors on site and assist
sponsors with their activations where required.
Suitable for a student studying marketing, media, communications or
journalism
Working knowledge of social media platforms including: Facebook, twitter,
Instagram, Snapchat
Knowledge of sports advantageous
Excellent communication skills and a friendly and approachable manner
Ability to take initiative and problem solving skills
Enthusiastic and motivated approach
Ability to work as part of a team
All volunteers are provided with meals and snacks daily, an event t-shirt and
hoodie to keep
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to receive an official written
reference following the event.
