ERE TAE MSA 5 Academic Posts Academic Research Non-Academic Posts Teaching Enterprise x Post Responsible to (and Level): CAO Education Development Professor Jessica Corner, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences Posts Responsible for (and Level): Job Purpose: To design, plan, and deliver the research evaluation of the ‘Cancer Aftercare and Supportive Self Management’ Project of the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative (NCSI) - transforming follow-up services following treatment, for patients with breast, testicular and colorectal cancer at the Southampton Hospitals University NHS Trust. Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum) 1. Design, plan and managing the NCSI funded research evaluation of the ‘Cancer Aftercare and Supportive Self Management’ project , sustaining a personal research plan, and supervising and taking responsibility for the engagement and supervision of statistical support, and health economics advice and contribution. % Time 15 2. Plan and develop the research proposal and detailed project plan, managing the project deliverables. 5 3. Secure ethics and governance approval for the project and manage the study in accordance with the requirements of ethics and governance processes and requirements complying with GCP as appropriate. 5 4. Develop and engage in research methodologies that add to the knowledge/understanding of the subject area. 2.5 5. Design and deliver patient related data collection for study sites in Hampshire. Collect evaluation date throughout the course of the study, from multiple sources, including interviews with service leaders and patients. 30 6. With the NCSI Cancer Aftercare and supportive self management project manager and DH Macmillan Project manager facilitate service transformation in each of the 3 study sites 5 7. Be responsible for data management and analysis for the project 5 8. Prepare project reports, research publications and knowledge transfer products and initiatives for the project. 18 9. Establish a national reputation by sustaining the regular dissemination of findings through leading peer-reviewed publications, presenting results at conferences, or exhibiting work at other appropriate 10 10. Carry out management and administrative tasks associated with the NCSI funded research project ‘Cancer Aftercare and Supportive Self Management’ project, including risk assessment of project activities, organisation of project meetings and documentation and preparation of regular reports. To oversee and implement procedures required to ensure accurate and timely formal reporting and financial control. 1.0 11. Undertake liaison with external organisations including NHS Trusts; DoH National Cancer Survivorship Initiative; Macmillan Cancer Support; other Universities, and external providers. 1.0 12. Responsibility for reporting and liaison to external funding body (Macmillan Cancer Support/Department of Health NCSI) Responsibility to the’ Cancer Aftercare and Supportive Self Management’ Macmillan Project Manager, At Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust, for collaboration and coordination of the research process with the service improvement processes and developments. As a senior member of the project team, will coordinate the day-to-day activities of research and technician staff under the guidance of the project director. Collaborators and colleagues in other work areas and institutions. Members of the Cancer, Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group, School of Health Sciences Special Requirements: To be available to participate in fieldwork as required by the NCSI/Macmillan funded project ‘Cancer Aftercare and Supportive Self Management’ To attend national and international conferences for the purpose of disseminating research results. 2 Person Specification Criteria Essential Desirable How to be assessed Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience: PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in social science, psychology or healthrelated subject CV CV/Int Knowledge of cancer service developments particularly in the area of cancer survivorship; and emergent issues of self management in cancer survivorship.
