Miss Bee Elementary General Music Lesson Plans – Week 6 – September 30-October 4 Kindergarten Concepts taught: tempo, steady beat Procedure: Hello song, follow procedures in teacher’s edition of Spotlight on Music Kindergarten T26-27, teach “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and change the tempo various times Resources: Spotlight on Music Kindergarten, Kindergarten big book, piano, CD player Evaluation: As a result of this lesson, students will sing songs with rhythmic accuracy, respond to tempo changes vocally and through movement Grade 1 Unit 1- Lesson 4 Concepts taught: rhythm and melody Procedure: Sing Hello Song, Teach and perform CMLS warmup routine with flashcards, follow procedures in teacher’s edition of Spotlight on Music Grade 1 T26T29 Resources: Spotlight on Music Grade 1, Grade 1 books, Grade 1 big book, piano, dry erase board, CD player Songs: Willum 1:12, Sleep, Bonnie Bairnie 1:20, La ranita cri 1:23 Vocabulary: duu (half notes), du (quarter notes), du de (eighth notes), shh (quarter rest) Evaluation: As a result of this lesson, students will be able to identify upward and downward melodic movement, respond through movement to the melodic direction, understand a visual display of melodic movement, improvise sound in melodic movement Grade 2 Unit 1 – Lesson 4 Concepts taught: melody (read sol and mi) Procedure: Teach and perform CMLS warmup routine, follow procedures in teacher’s edition of Spotlight on Music Grade 2 T18-T19, T20 if time permits, have students sing a sentence using the syllables sol and mi Resources: Spotlight on Music Grade 2, Grade 2 books, piano, dry erase board, CD player, latin percussion (maracas, guiro, rhythm sticks), hand sign posters Songs: Engine Engine Number Nine 1:17, Lemonade 1:25, Tabu 1:28 Evaluation: As a result of this lesson, students will sing in rhythm and on pitch, perform with diverse styles, improvise simple melodies, create short melodies, read pitches in treble clef using pitch syllables and hand signs Grade 3 Unit 1 – Lesson 4 Concepts taught: melody (read mi, re, do) Procedure: Teach and perform CMLS warmup routine, review Patriotic Medley, follow procedures in teacher’s edition of Spotlight on Music Grade 3 T18-19, T20-21 if time permits Resources: Spotlight on Music Grade 3, Grade 3 books, piano, dry erase board, CD player, hand sign posters Evaluation: As a result of this lesson, students will sing on pitch, read simple pitch notation in the treble clef,move to show melodic direction and pitch patterns while listening, identify mi re and do on the treble clef staff Grade 4 Concept taught: melody, the Treble clef lines and spaces Procedure: -Run through/teach vocal warmups (some classes know them already, others do not) -Learn musical staff lines and spaces, students will create their own pseudonym for remembering the lines and spaces on their sheets -Students will participate in a line and space relay race. There will be four teams with 5-7 players per team. Each team will be given seven index cards with the notes written on them (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G). Teams will sit in a row facing the front of the room, and the last teammate will be given the index cards. When I reveal the note, the last teammate will decide which note I wrote and pass up the corresponding card. The teammates must pass this index card to the front of the group without turning around or talking. The teammate in the front seat must view the index card and sound the correct boomwhacker before the other three teams. Any teams who turn around or talk will be disqualified for the round. The winning team will receive one point, and the team with the most points wins the game!
