Angle Relationships Adjacent angles Angles in the same plane that have a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points. Common vertex 1 2 Common side! Vertical angles two nonadjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines 3 Vertical 4 angles are congruent. Linear pair adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays 5 6 The sum of the measures of the angles in a linear pair is 180. Perpendicular lines Symbol: Special intersecting lines that form right angles (90º) Perpendicular lines intersect to form 4 right angles. Symbols: Parallel Lines Lines are parallel if they are always the same distance apart (called "equidistant"), and will never meet. Side Note: No angles are formed when you only have parallel lines! No touching=no angles! Remember: Always the same distance apart and never touching. angles – 2 angles whose measures have a sum of 180º Supplementary Form a Linear Pair! angles – 2 angles whose measures have a sum of 90º Complementary
