ResearchLabCourses(Forschungspraktikum)atthe ChairofInorganicandMetal-OrganicChemistry(AMC) 1.Assignmentoftopicsandsupervisors Candidatesareencouragedtoidentifyone(ormore)topicsoftheirchoicebycontacting membersoftheteam.Applicationsforalabcoursepositionincludingpreferencesfora certaintopicand/[email protected] mirza.cokoja@tum.de.Thetopicaswellasthesupervisorwillbefinallyassignedbasedon thisapplication.Subsequently,thesupervisorandthestudentwillagreetoatimeslot(20 fullworkingdays)forthelabcourse.Withinthewholeperiod-includingprearrangements, workingtime,preparationofthereportandoralpresentation-thestudentisaskedtojoin allsub-groupseminarsaswellasgeneralgroupseminarsofAMC. 2.Prearrangements ThesupervisorwillcommunicatethistimeslottoChristianGemelandorganizeadatefora safetybriefingforthestudentswithAlexanderPöthig.Anadditionalhands-onsafetytraining isgivenbythesupervisor.ThestudentsofficiallyapplyforthelabcoursewithAnnette Schier.Priortothestartinthelab,thestudentswillwriteaone-pageabstractdescribingthe scopeandaimofthepractical(abstracttemplateavailableviatheAMChomepage).The safetybriefingaswellassubmissionoftheabstracttochristian.gemel@tum.dehastobe completedbeforethefirstworkingdayinthelaboratory. 3.WorkingPeriod Theworkingtimeinthelaboratoryis20days(8heach)=160h.These160hmaybealso distributedtomorethan20days.Thedateofthelastworkingdayhastobecommunicated bythestudenttoAnnetteSchierviae-mail.Thedeadlineforsubmissionofthepractical reportissixweeksafterthelastworkingday.Thesupervisorisaskedtogradethelaboratory workonaformwhichhesubsequentlyreceivesfromAnnetteSchier. 4.Report Thefinalreportshouldbeahighqualityscientifictextbasedonthestandardsof publicationsininternationalpeer-reviewedjournals(e.g.Angew.Chem.Int.Ed.,JACS).The supervisorisaskedtosupportthestudentasmuchaspossible/necessaryinordertoachieve thehighestpossiblestandardofthetext.However,theamountofeffortthesupervisoris contributingtothisprocessaswellasthedegreeofindependencethestudentisshowing willbothaffectthefinalgrading.Thefinalreporthastobesubmittedbythestudentintwo hardcopiestoAnnetteSchier. 5.OralPresentation Beforecompletionofthereportthesupervisororganizesadateforanoralpresentation ("defensetalk")inthegeneralgroupseminarofAMC(contactperson:ChristianGemel). Again,preparationofthispresentationshouldbecloselyguidedbythesupervisor,the highestpossiblestandardshouldbetargeted.Preparationaswellaspresentation(including thediscussionpart)willaffectthefinalgrading. 5.FinalGrading Thefinalgrading(includingreportandoralpresentation)willbecommunicatedtoAnnette SchierbyChristianGemelafterconsultingwiththesupervisorandRolandA.Fischer.
