This module will enable the student to synthesise
and develop their existing and new knowledge of
conventional and alternative imaging systems and
anatomy, by exploring multi imaging strategies in
the oncology environment, and the role of the
radiographer in a client centered and holistic
approach. This module will also provide the student
with the theoretical underpinning for: The safe and
holistic execution of a wide range of radiographic
examinations relating to oncology. Developing the
student's ability to critically review all aspects of the
patient's pathway in oncology

This module aims to provide a firm understanding of
the principles and practice of clinical microbiology;
principally bacteriology and virology. Taught lectures
and interactive tutorials will introduce the theory of
infectious disease whilst laboratory classes cover the
standard methodologies applied in the diagnosis of
infection, and their safe practice

The purpose of this module is to provide the student
with theoretical instruction in the basics of neonatal
care relating to care of the preterm, sick and low
birth weight newborn. Students will develop
knowledge in providing systematic, organised

This module provides an opportunity for students to
gain knowledge in research methods and a critical
understanding of the impact of research in the
health and social care professions. Expertise will be
developed in understanding a broad range of
approaches to research used in health and social
care. Knowledge and understanding will be
developed in relation to the principles of designing,
undertaking and evaluating research. Lectures,
group tasks and specialist research seminars will be
used flexibly along with extensive online material to
provide students with a foundation in research
methods, brought to life through examples of
current research projects at GCU. Students will gain
insight into how research informs evidence based
practice and policy. By the end of the module,
students should be equipped to critique the
research literature, including literature reviews,
methods, results and implications for research,
practice and policy.
