Lab: Cell Structures and Functions
Part 1. Microscope Slides
1. Draw the cheek (epithelial) cell on high power. Label the following structures: cell
membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, and nuclear membrane. (7 points- 1 for drawing; 1 for
labeling field of view; 1 for correct total magnification; 1 for labeling each structure)
2. Draw the onion cell on high power. Label the following structures: cell wall, cell
membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, and nuclear membrane. (8 points -1 for drawing; 1 for
labeling field of view; 1 for correct total magnification; 1 for labeling each structure )
3. Draw the elodea cell on high power. Label the following structures: cell wall, cell
membrane, cytoplasm, and chloroplast. (7 points - 1 for drawing; 1 for labeling field of
view; 1 for correct total magnification; 1 for labeling each structure )
4.
Part 2. Analysis
1. Use a Venn diagram to compare a plant and animal cell. Name two structures a plant cell
has that the animal cell does not. Name two structures the plant and animal cell have in
common. (4points)
2. Describe the shape of the onion, elodea and cheek cells. (3 points)
3. Why were there no chloroplast observed in the onion cell? ( Hint think about where you
find onions growing) (1 point)
