Large-area detector development using liquid scintillators D. Beznosko, A. Iakovlev, A. Batyrkhanov, K. Yelshibekov Physics department of Nazarbayev University, Astana, KZ Abstract The Horizon-T detector system and the currently in R&D HorizonT-KZ (HT-KZ) detector system are designed for the detection of the Extensive Air Showers (EAS) with the energy above ~1016 eV (~51016 eV for HT-KZ).The main challenges in both detector systems are the fast time resolution needed for studying temporary structure of EAS, and the extremely wide dynamic range needed to study spatial particles distribution in EAS disks. In order to detect the low-density of charged particles far from the EAS axis, a largearea detector is needed. Liquid scintillator with low cost would be a possible solution for such a detector, including the recently developed safe and low-cost water-based liquid scintillators. The poster will show the latest studies of the different components optimization in the liquid scintillator formulas and possible detector designs for the Horizon-T and HT-KZ detector systems.
