This was hardly surprising as I had both a keen interest in science and the support and encouragement of my father, who had an earnest desire to see his six children immersing themselves in the pursuit of knowledge. My dedication to this pursuit began when I received my basic education in one of the most reputed educational institutions in the country. Upon graduation, I fulfilled my one year of mandatory residency at Dow Medical College with a focus on General Medicine and General Surgery. There forth, I obtained a position as a Research Coordinator at Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre. With the support of various grants, I worked on research emphasizing the correlation between the clinical and histopathological diagnosis of leprosy and the role of T cells in the disease. (This research taught me the true meaning of compassion and humanity and the importance of integrating and maintaining these values in the study and the application of medicine.) After gaining valuable experience in research I entered the field of Pathology as a Junior Instructor with the Department of Pathology at Dow Medical College. Upon the completion of three years in Pathology I proceeded to Basic Medical Sciences Institute Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre to complete my Masters in Philosophy. In 1998, I acquired my Masters in Histopathology and rejoined Dow Medical College as a Senior Instructor. During my masters program, I did research and wrote a thesis on “Experimental Production on Noncirrhotic Portal Hypertension and Splenomegaly with prolonged Antigenic Stimulation. Later, during my six years working for the Saudi Government as a Histopathologist in the Ministry of Health, my work focused on the gross and microscopic examination of surgical specimens received from all over the region. I cherish haven been given this immense opportunity to examine and demographically research rare medical cases of both Saudis and pilgrims coming from all over the world. My present goal is to resume practicing Pathology while simultaneously pursuing the boundaries of scientific knowledge through research. I am passionate about Pathology and believe in its potential to help alleviate human sufferings. My long term goal is to use my cross-cultural experience and multi-lingual abilities and volunteer my abilities as a Pathologist in humanitarian projects around the globe. I have faced unfathomable hardships during my education and career ranging from facing discrimination as a woman in the medical profession in Saudi Arabia, to being a wife and mother to three young children while maintaining a full-time career, to immigrating between three countries, each with its own culture and language. Never have I been deterred from that pursuit that I began as a young girl in Karachi, Pakistan and I am sure that my personal challenges have only succeeded in strengthening my resolve as a Doctor, as a mother and as a woman. I am confident if given the opportunity, I can make a positive contribution to your department and establish my reputation with both colleagues and patients. Thank you for both your time and consideration, I sincerely look forward to your response. To whom it may concern I am writing this letter for who worked in the capacity of Research Assistant on project on leprosy from 1989-1993 entitled: “ Immunological evaluation of purified recombinant and synthetic M. leprae antigens UNDP/World Bank/WHO/TDR.
